Atiku’s Son, Adamu, Declares for Adamawa South Senate Seat on ADC Platform

‎Adamu Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has formally declared his intention to contest the Adamawa South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

‎In a statement issued on Friday, the former Adamawa State Commissioner for Works and Energy Development said his decision followed months of extensive consultations with constituents, political stakeholders, supporters, and other concerned citizens across the senatorial district.

‎According to him, the growing calls for him to join the race were driven by a desire among the people for experienced, purposeful, and people-oriented representation in the National Assembly.

‎“After months of wide consultations, sincere reflections, and encouragement from constituents, stakeholders, supporters, and well-meaning citizens across Adamawa South, I have decided to answer the call to serve and formally join the race for the Adamawa South Senatorial seat,” he stated.

‎Adamu explained that he deliberately remained silent in recent months despite mounting pressure from supporters, noting that he wanted to focus on consultations and careful reflection before making his decision public.

‎He described the confidence reposed in him by supporters and community leaders across the district as both encouraging and humbling, adding that the demand for responsive leadership ultimately influenced his decision to enter the contest.

‎The former commissioner also confirmed that he has officially obtained his nomination form, describing the move as the formal commencement of his campaign for the Senate seat.

‎“Yesterday, I officially acquired my nomination form, marking the formal beginning of this journey and my commitment to offering myself for service to the good people of Adamawa South,” he said.

‎Adamu further described his ambition as a people-driven movement anchored on unity, inclusive representation, and sustainable progress for the people of Adamawa South.

‎“This movement belongs to the people and is driven by our shared desire for purposeful representation, unity, and progress across Adamawa South,” he added.

‎He expressed optimism that, with the support of the electorate, the movement would continue to gain momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎The development comes weeks after Adamu resigned from the cabinet of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri following the governor’s reported defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

‎His declaration is also expected to strengthen the growing influence of the ADC in Adamawa State amid ongoing political realignments linked to the involvement of the Atiku political family in the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
