‎Panic and anxiety swept through communities in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State on Thursday following a serious road accident along the Ejemekwuru Road, with several persons feared dead and others reportedly injured.

‎The accident, which occurred a few minutes before reports began circulating on social media, prompted urgent appeals to residents of Izombe, Ejemekwuru, Akabor and Agwa to immediately contact their relatives and loved ones who may have been travelling on the route.

‎Graphic videos and photographs shared online showed victims lying in nearby bushes beside the road while concerned residents and passers-by rushed to the scene in an attempt to render assistance before emergency responders arrived.

‎As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of casualties had not been officially confirmed, while the identities of those involved also remained unknown.

‎Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the crash. However, eyewitness accounts suggest the accident may have involved a commercial vehicle travelling along the busy Ejemekwuru axis.

‎Motorists have been advised to exercise caution while travelling through the area as rescue efforts continue.

‎The Ejemekwuru Road has witnessed several fatal accidents over the years, largely attributed to excessive speeding, poor road conditions, dangerous overtaking and inadequate traffic control measures.

‎Residents and road users have repeatedly called on the Federal and Imo State governments to improve the condition of the road, install speed-control measures and strengthen emergency response services along the corridor.

‎Following the circulation of videos from the crash scene, many residents expressed shock and concern on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

‎Several community members urged motorists to drive cautiously, while others called on emergency agencies and security personnel to intensify rescue operations and ensure victims receive prompt medical attention.

‎Families from the affected communities have also appealed for verified information regarding those involved, warning against the spread of unconfirmed casualty figures until official authorities conclude rescue and identification efforts.

‎Inside Agwa News will continue to monitor the situation and provide verified updates as more information becomes available.
