PREAMBLE
We, the undersigned Twenty-Six (26) Ward Chairmen out of the Thirty-Three (33) Ward Chairmen of Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, and Oru-West Federal Constituency, led by Hon. Nwasoro Sunny, Chairman of All Ward Chairmen, and Hon. Engr. Donald Obiukwu Secretary, in conjunction with the three LGA Chairmen of the Federal Constituency—Hon. Pastor Chris Iwu Obiefule (Oru-West), Engr. Cliff Onundu (Oguta), and Mr. Victor Azugwu (Ohaji-Egbema)—having carefully reviewed the events surrounding the NDC House of Representatives Primary Election conducted on 28th May, 2026, hereby issue this communiqué as an expression of our collective position and the democratic will of our members.
This communiqué is borne out of our commitment to justice, internal democracy, transparency, and the founding ideals upon which the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is built.
OUR RESOLUTION
We unequivocally affirm that Hon. (Barr.) Chudi Evans Egwe emerged as the clear, authentic, and overwhelming winner of the House of Representatives Primary Election conducted across Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, and Oru-West Federal Constituency.
The outcome of the primary election reflected the freely expressed will of party members and delegates across the constituency and was witnessed, documented, and certified by ward officials responsible for conducting the exercise.
As custodians of the party structure at the grassroots level, we reject in its entirety every attempt to substitute, alter, or manipulate the genuine outcome of the primary election in favour of any individual who did not secure the mandate of the members through the democratic process.
We consider any attempt to overturn the legitimate outcome of the primary election as a direct assault on internal democracy, the supremacy of the party constitution, and the collective decision of thousands of NDC faithful in the constituency.
OUR DEMANDS
In the interest of justice, party unity, and democratic integrity, we respectfully but firmly demand that:
1. Immediate Recognition of the Authentic Winner
The National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) should officially recognize and declare Hon. (Barr.) Chudi Evans Egwe is the duly elected NDC candidate for Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, and Oru-West Federal Constituency, having secured the lawful majority of votes cast during the primary election.
2. Protection of Internal Democracy
The national leadership must resist every form of external interference, political lobbying, and undue influence capable of undermining the democratic rights of party members and destroying the credibility of the NDC.
3. Respect for the People's Mandate
The votes and decisions of party members at the ward level must remain sacred and inviolable. Any action contrary to this principle would amount to a democratic abortion of the mandate freely and expressly given by the people.
4. Preservation of Party Unity
We urge the national leadership to strengthen confidence in the party by demonstrating that merit, participation, and democratic choice—not personal interests or political pressure—determine the emergence of candidates.
OUR POSITION
We make it clear that our support for Hon. (Barr.) Chudi Evans Egwe is founded on the legitimate outcome of the primary election and his longstanding commitment, sacrifices, and unwavering investment in the growth and sustainability of the NDC across Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, and Oru-West Federal Constituency.
Our position is not driven by sentiment but by documented facts and verifiable election results known to the ward leadership across the constituency.
OUR APPEAL
We respectfully call upon the National Chairman, Sen. Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe; National Leader, Sen. Seriake Dickson; our Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi; members of the National Executive Committee; the National Working Committee; the National Assembly Leadership of the party; and all genuine advocates of democracy to uphold the principles of fairness, transparency, and justice by protecting the mandate freely given to Hon. (Barr.) Chudi Evans Egwe.
History will remember the decision taken at this defining moment—whether the NDC chooses to strengthen democracy or undermine it through avoidable impunity.
NOTICE OF CONSEQUENCES
While remaining committed to peaceful, constitutional, and democratic engagement, we state unequivocally that any attempt to subvert the genuine outcome of the primary election will severely erode the confidence of grassroots members in the party.
Accordingly, we reserve the right to democratically withdraw from party activities, consultations, and mobilization efforts within the constituency until the legitimate mandate of the people is restored and respected.
CONCLUSION
The strength of every political party lies not in the preferences of a few but in the collective will of its members. The NDC has an opportunity to demonstrate that it is a party founded on justice, integrity, and democratic accountability.
We therefore urge the national leadership to stand with truth, uphold the authentic result of the primary election conducted on 28th May, 2026, and officially recognize Hon. (Barr.) Chudi Evans Egwe is the duly elected candidate for Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, and Oru-West Federal Constituency.
"Justice strengthens unity; democracy derives its legitimacy from the will of the people."
