The Federal Government has provided financial assistance of N1 million each to more than 100 Nigerians evacuated from South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals.
The intervention, carried out without extensive public publicity, is aimed at supporting the returnees as they reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives after being displaced by the violence.
According to available information, the financial support forms part of the government's broader commitment to protecting the welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad and providing relief to those affected by crises in foreign countries.
The beneficiaries, many of whom lost their livelihoods and possessions during the attacks, are expected to use the funds to establish themselves and begin the process of economic recovery.
The development comes as South Africa continues to experience periodic outbreaks of xenophobic violence that have affected migrants from several African countries, including Nigeria.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the situation closely and providing necessary assistance to Nigerians impacted by the crisis while continuing diplomatic engagements to safeguard the rights and security of its citizens living abroad.
