Fubara Reaffirms Support for Nigerian Army, Commends Army Chief on Security Gains

‎Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army in its efforts to strengthen security across the state, while commending the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. , for his leadership and contributions to national security.


‎The governor made the remarks on Friday, July 3, 2026, when the Chief of Army Staff paid him a courtesy visit at Government House in .


‎Governor Fubara congratulated Lt.-Gen. Shaibu on his achievements since assuming office, expressing confidence that his leadership would further strengthen the Nigerian Army's operational effectiveness and professionalism.


‎He also welcomed the decision to host the 2026  in Rivers State, describing it as a reflection of the improving security environment in the state and growing confidence in its capacity to host major national events.


‎According to the governor, the choice of Rivers State for the celebration underscores the progress made in maintaining peace and stability through the collective efforts of security agencies and the state government.


‎Fubara assured the Army Chief of his administration's continued partnership with military formations operating in the state, pledging sustained logistical and institutional support to enable them to effectively carry out their constitutional responsibilities.


‎"We owe you our support and collaboration to ensure that your officers operating here succeed. Whatever is needed for them to succeed, as a government, we will support them," the governor said.


‎He also assured the Nigerian Army of the state's full support for activities marking the Army Day Celebration, noting that government was committed to providing the necessary infrastructure and facilities for the successful hosting of the event.


‎Governor Fubara further commended the General Officer Commanding, the Commander of Bori Camp and other military personnel for their commitment to maintaining peace and security across Rivers State.


‎The governor also attributed Nigeria's improved crude oil production and rising oil revenues to the military's sustained operations against pipeline vandalism, illegal oil bunkering and crude oil theft.


‎He noted that the successes recorded in safeguarding critical national assets were yielding economic benefits for the country and contributing to increased national revenue.


‎Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, expressed appreciation to Governor Fubara for his administration's continued support to the Nigerian Army, particularly in facilitating its operations in Rivers State and hosting the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Port Harcourt.


‎He assured the governor of the Army's commitment to sustaining collaboration with the Rivers State Government in promoting security, protecting lives and property, and ensuring lasting peace across the state.
