The Enugu State Government has commenced the remodelling of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu as part of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's ongoing investment in sports infrastructure and youth development.
As part of the redevelopment project, shop owners operating around the stadium have been directed to vacate the premises to enable contractors begin work on the facility.
According to the project scope, the stadium will be upgraded to meet modern international standards. The renovation includes the installation of a FIFA-standard natural grass pitch, rehabilitation of the athletics track, roofing of spectator stands, upgrading of seating facilities, installation of modern floodlighting and a digital scoreboard, as well as enhanced access control and safety systems.
The project will also provide other supporting infrastructure aimed at improving the overall functionality and spectator experience at the stadium.
The remodelling forms part of the Mbah administration's broader commitment to revitalising sports facilities across Enugu State, promoting youth development, and creating an enabling environment for sporting activities capable of attracting national and international competitions.
