‎The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Akwa Ibom State chapter, has commended Governor Umo Eno for the successful payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to local government workers across the state.

‎In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the State President of NULGE, Comrade Anestina Iweh, the union described the payment as a strong indication of the administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and fulfilling its obligations to public servants.

‎According to the union, the settlement of the long-standing arrears has brought significant relief to thousands of local government employees and renewed confidence in the state government's dedication to staff welfare.

‎"The successful payment of the outstanding arrears owed to local government workers is a significant demonstration of Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to the welfare of workers in Akwa Ibom State," the statement read.

‎NULGE also acknowledged the contributions of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Frank Archibong, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Akwa Ibom State and Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Uwemedimo Udo, as well as the 31 local government chairmen for their collaborative efforts in facilitating the payment process.

‎The union noted that the combined efforts of the state government and local government authorities played a crucial role in settling the inherited financial obligations left by previous administrations.

‎"NULGE sincerely appreciates the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the ALGON Chairman, and all the 31 local government chairmen for their collective efforts in ensuring the settlement of these outstanding obligations," the statement added.

‎The union further stated that the payment has boosted workers’ morale, restored confidence in government institutions, and provided much-needed financial relief to employees who had patiently awaited the settlement of the arrears.

‎According to NULGE, the intervention reflects the government's understanding of the economic challenges confronting workers and its commitment to promoting productivity and efficient service delivery across the local government system.

‎The union expressed confidence in Governor Eno’s leadership, describing the clearance of the arrears as a major milestone in strengthening grassroots governance and enhancing public service delivery in Akwa Ibom State.

‎Reaffirming its support for the administration, NULGE pledged continued commitment to the implementation of the ARISE Agenda while assuring the government of the loyalty, dedication, and professionalism of local government workers in delivering quality services to citizens.

‎The union concluded that the payment of the outstanding obligations reinforces the importance of local government employees as critical partners in governance and sustainable development across the state.
