The Ondo State Government has withheld the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results and testimonials of several graduating secondary school students over misconduct during post-examination sign-out activities.
The decision was announced by the Ondo State Ministry of Education following investigations into incidents involving final-year students who allegedly engaged in acts considered contrary to established standards of discipline and conduct.
According to the ministry, a total of 17 students were sanctioned after they were found to have participated in unruly behaviour at the conclusion of their examinations. The students were reportedly captured in a viral video tearing their school uniforms and chanting slogans deemed inappropriate by school authorities.
The affected students are from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas Secondary School, and CAC Grammar School, all located in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Education officials stated that the sanctions include the withholding of the students' WASSCE results and testimonials, while some of those involved have also been expelled from their respective schools.
The ministry explained that the disciplinary measures were taken to reinforce the importance of responsible conduct among students and to preserve the values of discipline, respect, and decorum within the state's educational institutions.
Government officials emphasized that schools remain centres for academic excellence and character development, adding that acts capable of undermining institutional standards would not be tolerated.
The Ondo State Government reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline in schools and urged students to conduct themselves responsibly during and after academic activities.
