Three Nigerian Army personnel who lost their lives following an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State have been laid to rest at Giginya Barracks, Sokoto.
The soldiers were killed on Saturday when an IED detonated beneath their operational vehicle in Bargaja community while they were responding to a reported bandit attack in the area. The incident underscores the continuing security challenges facing parts of northwestern Nigeria.
The burial ceremony, held on Tuesday, was attended by military officers, government officials, family members, and sympathizers who gathered to pay their final respects to the fallen servicemen for their sacrifice and commitment to national security.
Representing Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the funeral, Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir conveyed the state's condolences to the families of the deceased and members of the armed forces. He described the soldiers as heroes who paid the ultimate price in the service of their nation.
“They lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting the lives and property of members of the community,” Gobir stated. He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to supporting security agencies in their ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and restore peace across affected communities.
Isa Local Government Area is situated along the Kamuku-Kuyambana forest corridor, a region that has experienced recurring security threats linked to armed bandit groups operating within the broader northwest zone.
Community leaders and residents have continued to advocate for enhanced security measures, including improved patrol equipment, advanced surveillance systems, and mine-detection technology, to reduce risks faced by security personnel and strengthen ongoing counter-banditry operations.
The burial ceremony served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made daily by members of Nigeria's armed forces in safeguarding lives, protecting communities, and preserving national stability.
