‎President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday commissioned the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), stretching from Ring Road I Junction to Ring Road II Junction in Abuja, reaffirming his administration's commitment to completing critical infrastructure projects across the country.

‎Represented at the ceremony by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President described the completion of the strategic road as evidence of the government's determination to deliver projects that promote economic growth, improve transportation, and enhance the quality of life of Nigerians.

‎Speaking at the inauguration, Tinubu stated that his administration is focused on ensuring continuity in governance by completing both inherited and newly initiated projects.

‎"We do not embark on projects only to abandon them. Our goal is to complete ongoing projects while also delivering new ones that benefit the people," the President said.

‎He noted that infrastructure remains a key driver of national development, stressing that investments in roads create opportunities for businesses, improve mobility, generate employment, and support urban expansion.

‎According to him, the newly completed carriageway will strengthen connectivity within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), providing improved access between major districts and opening up new economic opportunities for residents and investors.

‎Tinubu recalled that his administration commissioned the first phase of the OSEX project from Villa Roundabout to Ring Road I Junction in 2024, followed by the inauguration of the 15-kilometre left-hand service carriageway in 2025. He described the completion of the main carriageway as another milestone in the ongoing modernization of Abuja.

‎The President also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for providing leadership that has accelerated infrastructure delivery within the nation's capital.

‎He praised the minister for maintaining project timelines and ensuring contractors met agreed obligations, describing the ongoing transformation of Abuja as consistent with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

‎Tinubu further stated that the road project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, lower transportation costs, and improve connectivity between the Apo and Wasa districts, thereby expanding the economic potential of the FCT.

‎Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, attributed the successful completion of the project to effective collaboration between the government and the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited.

‎Wike disclosed that during the contract award in late 2025, he sought firm assurances from the contractor that the project could be completed ahead of President Tinubu's third anniversary in office.

‎According to the minister, despite initial concerns over the complexity of the dual carriageway, bridges, and culverts, the contractor fulfilled its commitment and delivered the project within the agreed timeframe.

‎He revealed that he personally visited the construction site more than ten times to monitor progress and ensure quality delivery.

‎"This project demonstrates that with commitment, cooperation, and government support, significant infrastructure can be delivered on schedule," Wike said.

‎The minister reiterated that the FCT Administration remains committed to completing projects inherited from previous administrations, emphasizing that continuity is an essential element of good governance.

‎He disclosed that approximately 80 percent of projects completed by the FCT Administration since 2023 were inherited projects, adding that abandoning publicly funded initiatives would amount to a waste of national resources.

‎Wike also announced that infrastructure has been fully developed at the relocation site designated for traders and artisans operating at the Apo Mechanic Village, fulfilling a longstanding government commitment to relocate the informal sector to a more suitable environment.

‎Responding to critics of the administration's performance, the minister highlighted several completed and ongoing projects across satellite towns, including road developments in Kwali, Karu, and Kubwa, as well as rural water supply initiatives.

‎He expressed optimism that residents of the Federal Capital Territory would continue to benefit from the administration's infrastructure agenda and support its efforts toward sustained development.

‎In her remarks, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the OSEX project as another significant achievement in Abuja's ongoing urban transformation.

‎She commended President Tinubu's commitment to infrastructure development, noting that sustained investments in roads, bridges, and other public facilities are translating government policies into tangible benefits for citizens.

‎Mahmoud also praised the leadership of Minister Wike, stating that his commitment to infrastructure delivery is contributing to improved mobility, urban expansion, and a higher quality of life for residents of the nation's capital.

‎The newly commissioned Outer Southern Expressway main carriageway is expected to strengthen Abuja's transportation network, facilitate economic activities, and support the Federal Capital Territory Administration's broader modernization and urban development agenda.
