UNIUYO VC Inaugurates Advisory Committee to Drive Academic Renewal, Institutional Repositioning

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Professor Christopher N. Ekong, has inaugurated an Advisory Committee to the Vice Chancellor as part of efforts to strengthen academic renewal, infrastructural development, financial growth and institutional governance at the university.
Professor Ekong inaugurated the committee on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at his office in the University of Uyo.
The committee, chaired by Emeritus Professor Akpan H. Ekpo, is expected to provide strategic advice and support to the Vice Chancellor as the university pursues its renewal and restoration agenda.
Other members of the committee are Professor Akaneren Essien; Professor Comfort Ekpo; Professor Enefiok Essien, SAN; Professor Trenchard Ibia; Professor Charles Uko; Professor I. V. O. Modo; Professor Okon Ansa; Professor Anthonia Essien; Professor Kingsley Akpabio; His Highness Obong P. J. Effiong; Obong Ide Owodiong-Idemeko; and Mr. Ekerete Adiaiduo.
Mr. Uduak Vincent will serve as Secretary to the committee.
Committee’s Mandate
The committee has an advisory mandate to assist the Vice Chancellor in refocusing the University of Uyo during the current period of renewal and restoration.
Its areas of focus include academic revival and repositioning, infrastructural revitalisation, financial growth and improved institutional governance, among other issues considered important to the development of the university.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chairman, Emeritus Professor Akpan H. Ekpo, pledged the committee’s total support for the Vice Chancellor and expressed confidence in the progress recorded by the administration within its first few months.
“I’m impressed with what you have done in the few months that you assumed as the Vice Chancellor,” he said.
Ekpo assured the Vice Chancellor that members of the committee would give their best in supporting the administration and contributing to the university’s development.
Responding, Professor Ekong assured the committee that he would not disappoint them, signalling his commitment to working with the members to advance the university’s renewal agenda.
The inauguration marks another step in the administration’s efforts to mobilise experienced academics, professionals and community stakeholders towards the continued development and repositioning of the University of Uyo.
