‎The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has reassured students, staff, parents, and the wider university community of their safety, dismissing as false reports circulating on social media about an alleged impending terrorist attack and mass abduction on the campus.

‎In a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Inya Egwu, the institution said there is no credible security intelligence or verified threat to support the claims contained in the viral social media post.

‎The university emphasized that the information being circulated online is unsubstantiated and should not be regarded as factual, urging members of the public to rely only on official communications for security-related information.

‎As part of its commitment to maintaining a safe academic environment, the management announced that additional precautionary measures have been introduced to further strengthen security across the Nsukka campus.

‎According to the statement, personnel of the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Army have been deployed to strategic entry points to complement the operations of the University's Security Unit and enhance surveillance within the institution.

‎The university also disclosed that some access gates into the campus will be temporarily closed to improve the monitoring and regulation of movement in and out of the institution.

‎In addition, motorcycle operations within the campus have been suspended with immediate effect. Under the new directive, only motorcycles belonging to authorized security personnel will be permitted beyond the university gates, while staff members who commute by motorcycle have been advised to park at designated locations outside the campus perimeter before proceeding to their offices.

‎Management urged students and staff to remain calm and continue with their academic and official activities without fear, stressing that there is currently no known security threat against the institution.

‎The statement further appealed to parents, guardians, students, staff, and members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary panic, anxiety, or disruption within the university community.

‎While encouraging everyone to remain vigilant and security-conscious, the university advised that any suspicious person, movement, noise, or activity should be promptly reported to the University Security Department or the nearest security agency.

‎UNN reiterated that security is a collective responsibility and called for the cooperation of all stakeholders in preserving the peaceful and secure environment for which the institution is known.

‎The management also cautioned against anonymous social media posts and unverified online messages containing sensational claims, noting that such information should be treated with caution to avoid unnecessary fear and uncertainty.

‎Reaffirming its commitment to excellence, the university assured students, staff, and parents that it remains dedicated to providing a safe, secure, and conducive environment for teaching, learning, research, and other academic activities.
