‎By Joe Alibe

‎As preparations intensify for the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, attention is gradually shifting to the managers who will lead their countries into football’s biggest tournament.

‎With the competition set to feature 48 nations for the first time in history, a wide range of experienced tacticians, former international stars, and established national team coaches are expected to take charge of teams across the six continental confederations.

‎The coaching roster includes globally respected managers such as Carlo Ancelotti, Marcelo Bielsa, Didier Deschamps, and Lionel Scaloni, reflecting a blend of tactical experience, continuity, and international pedigree ahead of the tournament scheduled for June 2026.

‎Host nations Canada, Mexico, and the United States are expected to be led by Jesse Marsch, Javier Aguirre, and Mauricio Pochettino respectively as they prepare to stage the first 48-team World Cup.

‎In Africa, several leading football nations will head into the tournament under established managers. Morocco will be coached by Walid Regragui, while defending African champions Côte d’Ivoire are set to continue under Emerse Faé. Egypt will be led by Hossam Hassan, with Senegal under Pape Thiaw and South Africa coached by Hugo Broos.

‎Other African representatives expected at the tournament include Algeria under Vladimir Petković, Ghana under Carlos Queiroz, Tunisia under Sami Trabelsi, DR Congo coached by Sébastien Desabre, and Cape Verde under Bubista.

‎Asian football powers will also feature several experienced coaches. Japan is expected to retain Hajime Moriyasu, while Saudi Arabia continues with Hervé Renard and South Korea remains under Hong Myung-bo.

‎Other Asian nations expected at the tournament include Australia under Tony Popovic, Iran under Amir Ghalenoei, Iraq coached by Jesús Casas, Qatar under Luis García, Jordan coached by Jamal Sellami, and Uzbekistan under Srečko Katanec.

‎Europe’s contingent features some of the game’s most recognised managerial names. England is set to be led by Thomas Tuchel, while Germany will continue under Julian Nagelsmann and France will remain with Didier Deschamps.

‎Former European champions Spain will be coached by Luis de la Fuente, while Portugal continues under Roberto Martínez, and the Netherlands remains with Ronald Koeman.

‎Other European nations expected at the tournament include Belgium under Rudi Garcia, Croatia under Zlatko Dalić, Switzerland coached by Murat Yakin, Türkiye under Vincenzo Montella, Austria under Ralf Rangnick, Scotland coached by Steve Clarke, Sweden under Jon Dahl Tomasson, Norway under Ståle Solbakken, Bosnia and Herzegovina coached by Sergej Barbarez, and Czechia under Ivan Hašek.

‎In South America, reigning world champions Argentina are expected to continue with Lionel Scaloni, while Brazil will be led by Carlo Ancelotti in one of the tournament’s most anticipated managerial appointments

‎Other South American teams include Uruguay under Marcelo Bielsa, Colombia coached by Néstor Lorenzo, Ecuador under Sebastián Beccacece, and Paraguay led by Gustavo Alfaro.

‎From the CONCACAF region, Panama is expected to be coached by Thomas Christiansen, while Haiti remains under Sébastien Migné and Curaçao continues with Fred Rutten.

‎Oceania representatives New Zealand are expected to head into the tournament under Darren Bazeley.

‎Despite the current list of coaches attached to the 48 qualified nations, changes in managerial appointments remain possible before the tournament begins, as several football federations continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
