The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The party confirmed that Amaechi will run alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on what it described as a “unity and rescue ticket” aimed at providing Nigerians with a credible alternative leadership.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, and stakeholders across the country’s geopolitical zones.
The ADC stated that Amaechi’s emergence as running mate was influenced by his strong showing in the party’s presidential primaries, where he emerged as runner-up, as well as his long record of public service.
The party further noted that Amaechi’s experience across the legislative and executive arms of government distinguishes him as a seasoned politician capable of complementing Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition.
Amaechi previously served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and later as Minister of Transportation, where he supervised key national infrastructure and rail development projects.
The ADC described his political career as one marked by extensive administrative experience and national exposure, arguing that this would strengthen the party’s governance capacity if elected.
The party also emphasized that Amaechi’s influence in the South-South and other parts of the country would help broaden the coalition’s political reach ahead of the 2027 elections.
It added that the joint ticket of Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi represents a combination of experience, political structure, and governance capacity aimed at addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
The ADC further stated that the partnership reflects its commitment to national unity, inclusive governance, and institutional reform.
The party expressed confidence that the Atiku-Amaechi ticket would energize its coalition, attract broad-based support, and offer Nigerians what it described as a credible pathway to national renewal.
It called on party members, coalition partners, civil society groups, youth organizations, and Nigerians at large to support the joint ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
