‎ABUJA – President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday administered the oath of office to four newly elected senators following their victories in the recent by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

‎The newly inaugurated lawmakers are Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District; Envulu Anza of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District; Ikeje Asogwu of the APC, representing Enugu North Senatorial District; and Dayo Faduyile of the APC, representing Ondo South Senatorial District.

‎Their swearing-in took place during plenary at the Senate chamber, formally marking the commencement of their legislative duties in the 10th National Assembly.

‎The lawmakers emerged victorious in the by-elections held last Saturday to fill vacancies created by death and appointment in the affected senatorial districts.

‎The Rivers South-East seat became vacant following the death of former Senator Barinada Mpigi, while the Nasarawa North seat was left vacant after the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki.

‎In Enugu North, Ikeje Asogwu succeeded the late Senator Okechukwu Ezea, whose passing created the vacancy in the district.

‎Similarly, Dayo Faduyile was elected to represent Ondo South following the appointment of former Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

‎Senate President Akpabio congratulated the new senators and urged them to contribute meaningfully to legislative debates and national development as they assume their responsibilities in the upper chamber.

‎The inauguration restores full representation to the four senatorial districts and strengthens the Senate's legislative capacity as it continues its work on national governance and policy matters.
