NDC Moves to Resolve Internal Differences, Unites Imo Leaders Ahead of Elections

OWERRI, IMO STATE — The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified efforts to resolve internal differences among its members in Imo State, following a consultative and reconciliation meeting involving party leaders, candidates and other stakeholders.
The meeting, held on Saturday, was led at the national level by Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the NDC, while former Imo State Governor, His Excellency Chief Achike Udenwa, led the Imo delegation.
The engagement focused on strengthening unity within the party and addressing issues capable of affecting its preparations and electoral prospects in the state.
Party leaders, candidates and stakeholders who participated in the meeting reportedly agreed on the need to close ranks and work collectively towards the success of all NDC candidates in forthcoming elections.
The discussions also provided an avenue for stakeholders to exchange views on the challenges confronting the party in Imo State and explore ways of resolving outstanding differences through dialogue.
At the end of the meeting, participants reached a shared commitment to pursue reconciliation, strengthen internal cohesion and support candidates contesting under the NDC platform.
The party said the objective was to ensure that disagreements within its ranks do not undermine its broader political aspirations or the prospects of its candidates.
The reconciliation initiative comes as political parties continue to strengthen their structures and mobilise supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
For the NDC, the meeting represents an effort to consolidate its presence in Imo State by bringing different tendencies within the party together and establishing a common direction ahead of the elections.
The party's leadership also indicated that the reconciliation process would continue beyond the meeting.
According to the statement on the engagement, the National Leadership of the NDC is expected to dispatch a team of senior party officers to Imo State to support the ongoing reconciliation process.
The proposed visit is expected to provide additional political coordination and help facilitate further discussions among leaders, candidates and other stakeholders.
The move is also expected to strengthen communication between the national leadership and the party's structures in Imo State as preparations for future electoral contests intensify.
Stakeholders at the meeting maintained that unity would be critical to the party's ability to compete effectively and secure electoral victories across the various levels of representation.
The commitment reached by the participants covers NDC candidates from the top of the ballot to the grassroots, signalling an intention to build a coordinated campaign structure rather than pursue fragmented interests.
The involvement of senior national figures in the reconciliation process also underscores the importance attached to the party's political development in Imo State.
With the national leadership preparing to send additional senior officers to the state, the NDC is expected to sustain consultations with its various interest groups in the coming weeks.
The party's immediate priority remains the consolidation of unity, resolution of internal disagreements and mobilisation of its members around a common political objective.
