Amaechi Represents Atiku at NBA 66th Conference Panel in Port Harcourt

Former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has joined prominent political and legal figures at the Nigerian Bar Association’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Amaechi was pictured with Chief Eze Okafor, CFE, during the conference, which has brought together lawyers, politicians, public officials, business leaders and other stakeholders for discussions on Nigeria’s future.
According to information accompanying the photograph, Amaechi is representing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at a panel session titled “Politics, People, and Nigeria’s Future: Forget the Slogans.”
The session is expected to provide a platform for participants to examine Nigeria’s political direction, governance challenges, citizen participation and the prospects for national development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi's participation adds political weight to the discussion, given his extensive experience in Nigerian public life, including his tenure as governor of Rivers State and his service as Minister of Transportation.
The former governor has remained an influential figure in national political discourse and has frequently participated in debates concerning governance, democracy and the country's political future.
His appearance at the NBA conference also comes at a time when political parties and political actors are increasingly positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Nigerian Bar Association’s 66th Annual General Conference is holding in Port Harcourt from August 21 to 28, 2026, under the theme “Beyond Limits.” The conference is taking place at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in the Elekahia area of the Rivers State capital.
The NBA has described the annual conference as a major gathering for professional development, intellectual engagement, networking and discussions on issues affecting the legal profession and wider society.
The 2026 conference has attracted thousands of legal practitioners and other participants from Nigeria and beyond. NBA President Afam Osigwe, SAN, earlier said more than 23,000 lawyers were expected to converge on Port Harcourt for the event, while the Local Organising Committee projected attendance of more than 24,000 legal practitioners.
Beyond the legal profession, the conference has provided a platform for broader conversations about governance, leadership and the future of Nigeria.
The panel involving Amaechi and other participants is therefore expected to attract considerable attention, particularly as the country approaches another election cycle.
The theme, “Politics, People, and Nigeria’s Future: Forget the Slogans,” places emphasis on substantive political conversations rather than campaign rhetoric, with discussions expected to focus on how political leadership can respond to the aspirations and challenges confronting Nigerians.
Amaechi’s representation of Atiku at the session is also significant against the backdrop of ongoing political realignments ahead of 2027. Atiku, a former Vice President and presidential candidate, remains an important figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics.
The NBA conference itself is expected to continue featuring plenary sessions, professional discussions and special-interest engagements throughout the week before concluding on August 28.
For Port Harcourt, the hosting of the conference has also brought a major concentration of professionals and visitors into the city. NBA officials have said the event is expected to provide economic benefits to Rivers State through spending by delegates, service providers and other participants.
Amaechi’s appearance at the conference consequently combines legal, political and civic dimensions, placing the former governor among prominent voices participating in discussions about Nigeria’s political future.
