COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF AN ENLARGED STAKEHOLDERS’ MEETING OF THE AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (ADC), IMO STATE CHAPTER*
‎_Held at Owerri, Imo State – 4th May, 2026_

‎PREAMBLE
‎The Critical Stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Imo State Chapter, gathered in Owerri on 4th May, 2026 for a sober and strategic review of the state of the Party in light of recent national and state developments.

‎The meeting was convened in the spirit of reflection, responsibility, and renewal — to reaffirm our collective commitment to the ideals of the ADC as a credible platform for national rebirth and people-centered governance.

‎DELIBERATIONS
‎The Stakeholders gave thorough consideration to the following matters:
‎1. The recent Supreme Court judgement affirming the legitimacy of the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee and restoring constitutional order within the Party.
‎2. The publicized defection of Mr. Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the ADC to another political platform.
‎3. The isolated defection of a few members within Imo State to other parties.
‎4. The urgent need to consolidate unity, rebuild trust, and project the ADC as the authentic vehicle for Nigeria’s political and economic redemption in 2027.

‎RESOLUTIONS
‎After robust and forward-looking deliberations, the Stakeholders resolved as follows:

‎1. On Party Cohesion and Resilience
‎The ADC in Imo State remains structurally sound and ideologically cohesive. The departure of a few individuals, though unfortunate, does not constitute a fracture. Politics is a marketplace of ideas, and those who leave on the premise of transient advantage will ultimately realize that substance outlives sentiment. The core of the Party remains intact and committed to the long-term project of national renewal.

‎2. On the Status of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha
‎The Stakeholders categorically affirm that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, former Governor of Imo State and a towering figure in the ADC, has neither defected nor contemplated defection. He remains an unshakable pillar of the Party in Imo State and will continue to provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and direction as we prepare for 2027.

‎3. On Freedom of Association and Political Decorum
‎The ADC respects the constitutional right of every Nigerian to belong to any political party of choice. However, we draw a line between legitimate political movements and the weaponization of religion, ethnicity, and misinformation to induce defection for personal gain. Such conduct is antithetical to democratic maturity and undermines the very foundation of nation-building.

‎4. On the ADC as a Platform of Ideals, Not Expediency
‎To our members contemplating defection: remember that parties are not permanent shelters for personal ambition, but platforms built on principles. The ADC represents an ideology of transparency, equity, competence, and inclusiveness — values that transcend the fleeting gains of political patronage. Those who abandon a house under construction will have no place in the palace when it is completed.

‎5. On Regional and National Alignment
‎Imo ADC is committed to working in concert with our Southeast counterparts and chapters nationwide to build a formidable ADC that will rescue Nigeria in 2027. Our strength lies in collective action, not fragmented loyalties.

‎6. On Internal Democracy and Primaries
‎We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to conduct free, fair, and transparent primaries in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the ADC’s Electoral Guidelines. No aspirant will be favored. No member will be disenfranchised. The will of the people shall prevail.

‎7. On Grassroots Engagement and Mobilization
‎The Party shall immediately launch a grassroots mobilization and reorientation campaign across all 27 LGAs of Imo State. Our goal is to deepen civic consciousness, expand our membership base, and empower ordinary citizens to take ownership of the political process.

‎8. On National Allegiance
‎Imo ADC pledges total loyalty to the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee. We believe that only through disciplined party structure and visionary leadership can Nigeria overcome its current challenges of insecurity, poverty, and institutional decay. The ADC remains the best hope for a secure, prosperous, and united Nigeria in 2027.

‎A DIRECT APPEAL TO OUR MEMBERS
‎To every loyal member of the ADC in Imo State: do not trade a future you can build for a promise you cannot verify. Defection, driven by fear or immediate gratification, often leads to political irrelevance and moral compromise. The ADC may not have all the resources today, but it has what matters most — integrity, a credible vision, and a leadership that listens.

‎History has shown that those who stay the course and build with patience are the ones who inherit the legacy. The ADC is that legacy in the making.

‎CONCLUSION
‎Imo ADC stands united, resolute, and undeterred. We call on all members to remain steadfast, to reject the politics of distraction, and to prepare for the task of delivering credible governance to the people of Imo State and Nigeria at large.

‎Signed,
‎Chief MacDonald Amadi KSM JP
‎State Publicity Secretary
