France international Ousmane Dembele has defended his decision to leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain, describing the transfer as the right move for his career and personal development.
Dembele joined Barcelona in 2017 as one of the club's marquee signings and spent six seasons with the Spanish giants. However, recurring injuries limited his impact, restricting him to 185 appearances in all competitions, during which he scored 40 goals.
Reflecting on his departure, the 28-year-old admitted that leaving a club he had supported since childhood was not an easy decision, but insisted it came at the right moment in his career.
"Afterwards, in my case, I think it was the right time to leave the club. Although I was very attached to Barca, which I have supported since I was little," Dembele said.
The French forward explained that discussions with Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique, who had long admired him, as well as conversations with the club's president and sporting director, convinced him to make the move to the French champions.
According to Dembele, his experience in Paris has allowed him to build on the progress he made during his final seasons at Barcelona while overcoming the injury setbacks that once hindered his development.
"My beginnings in Spain had been very difficult because of injuries, but in Paris, I have continued the trend of those last two seasons at Barcelona," he stated.
Dembele added that he has gained valuable experience and developed a better understanding of his physical condition, crediting Luis Enrique and his coaching staff for carefully managing his fitness.
"I have gained experience and learned to understand my body much better, which has helped me enormously. In addition, I am fortunate to have Luis Enrique and his coaching staff, who manage me perfectly," he said.
The forward's comments come as he continues to play an influential role for Paris Saint-Germain, reinforcing his belief that the switch from Barcelona has revitalized his career.
