ENO COMMISSIONS SOLAR-POWERED MODEL PHC IN IKOT ABASI

IKOT ABASI, AKWA IBOM STATE — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned a Model Primary Healthcare Centre at Ikot Uboh in Edemaya Clan, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare services in rural communities.
The facility, which was commissioned on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, by former Deputy Governor of the state, Obong Nsima Ekere, who represented Governor Eno at the ceremony, is fully equipped and powered by solar energy.
Ekere, who is from Edemaya where the healthcare centre is located, commended the state government for investing in healthcare infrastructure and bringing medical services closer to residents in rural areas.
He described the project as evidence of the administration's focus on strengthening the state's healthcare sector and improving access to essential medical services outside major urban centres.
Ekere also expressed confidence in the continued support of residents of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area for the administration, saying the people were prepared to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Eno and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress in forthcoming elections.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Hon. Ime Williamson Essien, thanked Governor Eno for locating the Model Primary Healthcare Centre in the community.
Essien said the facility would contribute significantly to healthcare delivery in the area and improve access to basic medical services for residents.
He assured the governor of the continued support of the people of the local government for his administration and its development programmes.
Also speaking, the member representing Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Uduak Ududo, welcomed the commissioning of the facility.
Ududo said the healthcare centre would serve residents of Edemaya, Nnung Asang and Ette communities, reducing the need for residents to travel long distances to access basic healthcare.
The federal lawmaker also commended the state government for road projects being executed in other parts of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area and pledged his support for Governor Eno's administration and its ARISE development agenda.
In separate goodwill messages, the Special Adviser in the Bureau of Political Affairs and Social Reorientation, Barr. Kufre Udosen, and the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, represented by the Clan Head of Ikpa Nnung Asang, Edidem C. Udia, commended the governor for extending development projects to rural communities.
They described the healthcare centre as an important intervention that would strengthen social infrastructure and improve the wellbeing of residents.
Providing an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John Emmanuel, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Patrick Eshiet, said the facility was designed to provide accessible and quality primary healthcare services to residents of Ikot Uboh and neighbouring communities.
According to him, the solar-powered facility forms part of the state's efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and ensure that residents, particularly those in rural communities, can access essential medical services close to their homes.
The commissioning was attended by members of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, APC State Chairman Obong Stephen NtukEkpo, aides to the governor, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youths.
The commissioning adds to the state government's ongoing investment in primary healthcare infrastructure, with the administration positioning improved access to healthcare as an important component of its rural development programme.
Ikot Abasi is a coastal local government area in Akwa Ibom State. Edemaya Clan is one of the communities within the local government area, while Ikot Uboh is the location of the newly commissioned Model Primary Healthcare Centre.
