The 2025/26 football season has officially come to an end across Europe’s top five leagues, with several clubs suffering relegation from their respective top-flight divisions.
Dropping out of the elite leagues comes with significant financial and sporting consequences, including reduced television revenue, loss of sponsorship opportunities, and the challenge of securing an immediate return to top-flight football.
While a few relegation battles remain unresolved pending final fixtures, several clubs have already had their fate confirmed.
PREMIER LEAGUE (ENGLAND)
Two clubs have already been relegated from the English Premier League:
Burnley
Wolverhampton Wanderers
The final relegation spot remains undecided and will be determined on the last day of the season.
Tottenham Hotspur currently occupies 17th position with 38 points and needs only to avoid defeat in their home clash against Everton to secure survival. West Ham United, sitting 18th with 36 points, must defeat Leeds United and hope other results go in their favour to remain in the division.
LALIGA (SPAIN)
Three teams have been confirmed for relegation from Spain’s top flight:
Mallorca
Girona
Real Oviedo
The trio will compete in the Spanish second division next season after failing to secure enough points to maintain their LaLiga status.
SERIA A (ITALY)
Italian clubs already relegated from Serie A include:
Hellas Verona
Pisa
The final relegation place remains a two-team battle between Lecce and Cremonese. Lecce sit 17th on 35 points, just one point above Cremonese in 18th, heading into the final round of fixtures.
BUNDESLIGA (GERMANY)
Germany’s Bundesliga has confirmed the relegation of:
FC Heidenheim
FC St. Pauli
Both clubs will play in the second tier next season after unsuccessful campaigns in the German top division.
LIGUE 1 (FRANCE)
In France, the following clubs have been relegated from Ligue 1:
Nantes
Metz
The two sides will drop to Ligue 2 after finishing in the relegation places at the end of the campaign.
As European football prepares for the 2026/27 season, attention will now shift to promotion battles and rebuilding efforts as relegated clubs seek a swift return to the top tier.
