EZEH WOOS IMO WU OTU WOMEN FOR OBI, DECRIES INFRASTRUCTURE DECAY IN ORSU

ORSU, IMO STATE — The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Orsu State Constituency in the 2027 Imo State House of Assembly election, Hon. Sir. Emeka Ezeh, has called on members of the Imo Wu Otu Organisation to intensify their support for the party and its candidates, particularly its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi.
Ezeh made the call on Sunday, September 6, 2026, during the quarterly leadership prayer session and strategic interaction of the women’s wing of the Imo Wu Otu Political Organisation, held at Vennesa Hotel, opposite Market Square, in Imo State.
The meeting attracted representatives from the three senatorial zones of the state and was led by the State Director-General of the movement, Hon. (Mrs.) Florence Asonye, popularly known as the “Iron Lady.”
Addressing the gathering, Ezeh commended Asonye and the leadership of Imo Wu Otu for sustaining the political structure over the years, describing the movement as an important grassroots platform in the state.
He also appreciated the convener for what he described as her contribution to political mobilisation and what he termed a political renaissance in Orlu and Imo State generally.
Ezeh said the decision by the Organisation to support the NDC and her candidates represented a significant political commitment which, according to him, should not be taken for granted.
“Today, I am here to appreciate the Imo Wu Otu Organisation for keeping faith with posterity and endorsing NDC and all the candidates as the party to work with. For me this is a great sacrifice which I cannot take for granted.”
The Orsu candidate also described Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as leaders capable of providing what he characterised as good governance, development, security, employment, national unity and a renewed sense of pride for Nigerians.
He urged members of the Organisation and other supporters of the NDC to intensify their mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The Nigeria of today is the Nigeria where people takes money for medication to eat, because they are hungry. The Nigeria of today is a country begging for good leadership which Mr. Peter Obi, our leader has provided himself again to rescue. This is a moment that we must all double our efforts to ensure absolute victory for Obi.”
Sir. Ezeh further urged voters to participate actively in the electoral process, stressing the importance of voting, remaining at polling units to monitor the counting process and insisting that results be declared in accordance with electoral guidelines.
“Let me tell us, every vote must count in the 2027 elections. We must insist for the right thing to be done. There will be a repeat of Osun State elections scenarios. We must vote, we must stay to count our vote, and insist for declaration of results according to the INEC guidelines.”
The NDC candidate also used the occasion to explain his motivation for seeking election into the Imo State House of Assembly, saying his ambition was not driven by the desire for popularity but by what he described as the need to rebuild Orsu after years of insecurity and destruction.
Ezeh said the effects of insecurity had affected the constituency through loss of lives, destruction of property and psychological trauma, adding that the situation required committed representation.
According to him, he had previously spoken publicly against insecurity and killings in Orsu through television appearances and media engagements.
“You all can remember the bad days of guns. Blood and tears. When their was no voice for Isu people, I remain the ever ready and unafraid voice of the constituency, going all over television station and press to speak against the killing in Orsu. The records are there,” he said.
He also expressed concern over the condition of social infrastructure in the constituency, particularly roads, healthcare facilities and schools.
Ezeh said poor road infrastructure could create serious difficulties for residents requiring emergency medical attention, particularly pregnant women experiencing complications during childbirth.
“Orsu has major destruction in social infrastructure, no good roads, and hospitals. If a woman is giving birth and have any complications, it becomes a nightmare, because in most cases, the woman dies on the process because there is no road to quickly move her to a better hospital for treatment, how about our primary and secondary schools, it is better imagined than said. These will be taken care of if elected to serve the good people of Orsu.”
He linked the development challenges facing Orsu to the broader question of leadership at the national and subnational levels, using an analogy of the human body to illustrate his position.
According to him, effective leadership at the top would have a positive effect on other levels of governance, while poor leadership would affect the entire system.
Ezeh also urged members of Imo Wu Otu to continue their mobilisation for NDC candidates, saying that the success of the party would depend largely on sustained grassroots engagement.
“We must deliver Obi first, to make things easier, because when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice.”
He further pledged his continued commitment to the movement, describing Imo Wu Otu as a political project he had personally adopted.
“I want to encourage Imo Wu Otu to continue their good support of NDC and all her candidates, ensure to bring more people on board because the more the merrier, for me, I have adopted Imo Wu Otu as my project, and wherever I see myself tomorrow, Imo Wu Otu, is first before others,” he concluded.
Responding to Ezeh's remarks, the State Director-General of Imo Wu Otu, Hon. (Mrs.) Florence Asonye, expressed appreciation to the Orsu candidate for identifying with the women's wing and attending its leadership prayer session.
Asonye explained that Imo Wu Otu had existed for decades as a political organisation and that the women's wing had gathered for prayers and strategic engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
She said the women considered prayer an important part of their political activities, noting that, after grassroots mobilisation, they believed the outcome of the electoral process should ultimately be committed to God.
“Imo Wu Otu is a political organisation that has been existing for years. This is the Women Wing, and today, we having been here for our leadership prayer session for our candidates, because we believe that God gives power and as mothers and grassroots women mobilizers, it's our duty to handover this election to God after we do our work for mobilizing for the party,” she remarked.
Asonye described the women present at the gathering as politically experienced and grassroots-oriented, stressing that they were committed to mobilising support for the NDC and its candidates.
“The people you are seeing here are politically grounded. They are not push and start women, but women that are politically informed, and in this election, Mr. Peter Obi and all NDC candidates are our priority to deliver and we must do that because God is with Imo Wu Otu women.”
She further disclosed that the prayer session was also focused on Imo State, Nigeria, NDC candidates contesting federal and state positions for the 2027 elections.
“We are here to pray for Imo State, Nigeria, all NDC Federal election candidates and State and our incoming governor, Chief Martin Agbaso (Uchudo Owerri),” she concluded.
The meeting ended with prayers for Ezeh, particularly for his protection and electoral success, as well as prayers for the NDC candidates and the development of Imo State.
The engagement forms part of the continuing political mobilisation and grassroots activities being undertaken by political organisations and support groups ahead of the 2027 general elections.
For Ezeh, the event provided an opportunity to combine his campaign for the NDC and Peter Obi with his call for renewed attention to infrastructure, healthcare, education and other development needs in Orsu State Constituency.
