The Federal Government has designated Monday, June 29, to Friday, July 3, 2026, as National Learning Assessment Week, introducing what is expected to be Nigeria's first comprehensive nationwide evaluation of student learning outcomes across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The initiative is designed to establish a reliable baseline for measuring students' academic performance and to provide data that will guide future educational reforms and policy decisions aimed at improving learning outcomes across the country.
Education authorities, state governments, and other key stakeholders are currently finalizing logistics to ensure the smooth implementation of the assessment exercise. Officials say the standardized evaluation will help identify strengths and gaps within the existing curriculum, enabling policymakers to develop targeted interventions for schools and learners.
According to government officials, the assessment is part of broader efforts to strengthen the nation's education system through evidence-based planning and accountability. The exercise is expected to generate critical data that will support strategic investments in teaching quality, curriculum development, and student achievement.
Participation has been made mandatory for all selected schools to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the assessment results. Authorities have urged school administrators, teachers, parents, and students to cooperate fully throughout the exercise.
The Federal Government expressed optimism that National Learning Assessment Week will serve as a significant milestone in advancing academic excellence and improving the quality of education, laying a stronger foundation for sustainable national development.
