The former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Imo State, Hon. M. O. Nlemedim, Esq., has paid tribute to the late Hon. Chief Sir. Ethelbert Nnanna Nze, popularly known as “Watch Out,” describing his death as a devastating blow to the Agwa clan and Oguta.
Nlemedim spoke during the valedictory session held by the Imo State House of Assembly on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in honour of the late former legislator and political leader.
The solemn session was attended by serving and former members of the Imo State House of Assembly and presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe.
Speaking to Inside Agwa News, which covered the session, Nlemedim said he attended the event as an indigene of Agwa and as someone who had lost a brother.
“Yes, I came here as an indigenous of Agwa and somebody who lost his brother. Hon. Chief Sir Ethelbert Nnanna Nze, was a prominent son of Agwa and I must say that his demise is the most devastating blow to the entire Agwa.
“The clan is pained. We are concerned. We are sad over the incident because Hon. Nnanna has paid his due politically. He has occupied prominent positions in the government starting from House of Assembly member, the Transition Committee Chairman of Oguta Local Government Area, SA to the Governor and other responsible positions.
“So we are here to show solidarity. We are here to commiserate with the family. We are here to associate ourselves with his colleagues in the Imo State House of Assembly and to pay our condolences. That is why I came. Thank you,” Nlemedim concluded.
Nnanna served in several public capacities during his political career, including as a member of the Imo State House of Assembly representing Oguta State Constituency, Transition Committee Chairman of Oguta Local Government Area and Special Adviser to the Governor.
The valedictory session brought together lawmakers, former lawmakers, political associates, family members and other stakeholders who gathered to honour his memory and reflect on his years of public service.
Nnanna’s death has also elicited tributes from people across Agwa and Oguta, where he was regarded as a prominent figure in the political life of the area.
The funeral rites are scheduled to culminate on Friday, September 25, 2026, with his burial at his hometown, Umuomara Community, Obeama, in Mbano Agwa Autonomous Community, Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.
