IRONA URGES NDI OGUTA TO SUPPORT NWABEKEE IN 2027 ASSEMBLY ELECTION
OGUTA, IMO STATE — Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Engr. Gerald Irona, has called on the people of Oguta Local Government Area to support and vote for Hon. Goddey Nwabekee, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Oguta State Constituency in the 2027 Imo State House of Assembly election.
Irona made the call on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, following the commencement of campaign activities for the 2027 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
In a statement issued by the ADC Publicity Secretary for Oguta LGA, Rex Okoronkwo, Irona described Nwabekee as a trustworthy, committed and people-oriented politician capable of representing the interests of constituents at the Imo State House of Assembly.
According to the former deputy governor, Nwabekee possesses the character, vision and determination required to provide effective representation for the people of Oguta.
Irona stressed that political representation should not be measured merely by occupying an elected position, but by the ability of a representative to understand the needs of the people, listen to constituents and speak courageously on issues affecting them.
“Effective representation goes beyond occupying a political office; it requires a representative who understands the needs of his constituents, listens to the people, speaks boldly on their behalf, and remains accessible to them,” Irona said.
He expressed confidence that Nwabekee has the qualities necessary to provide what he described as purposeful and responsive representation for Ndi Oguta.
The former deputy governor also urged voters in Oguta to consider the individual qualities of candidates rather than allowing political-party sentiments to determine their choice at the polls.
Irona called on political leaders, youths, women, traditional institutions and other stakeholders across Oguta Local Government Area to rally behind Nwabekee ahead of the 2027 election.
He urged the electorate to assess candidates based on “competence, character, credibility, and the capacity to deliver meaningful representation.”
The endorsement comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to intensify across Imo State. The Oguta State Constituency contest is expected to attract attention as political parties and aspirants commence efforts to mobilise voters across the local government.
For Oguta voters, the election will provide an opportunity to decide who will represent the constituency in the state legislature for the next electoral cycle. The eventual representative will be expected to participate in legislative activities while also articulating issues affecting constituents before the state government and relevant institutions.
Irona’s call adds another political voice to the emerging campaign around Nwabekee’s candidacy. However, the outcome of the election will ultimately depend on the decision of registered voters at the polls.
