‎Alex Iwobi is on the brink of making Nigerian football history as he prepares to earn his 100th appearance for the Super Eagles, becoming only the fourth player to reach the prestigious milestone after Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama, and Ahmed Musa.

‎The Fulham midfielder's achievement reflects more than a decade of unwavering commitment, consistency, and loyalty to the national team, placing him among an elite group of players who have made lasting contributions to Nigerian football.

‎Joseph Yobo – 100 Caps, 7 Goals (2001–2014)

‎Joseph Yobo became the first Nigerian footballer to reach 100 international appearances, establishing himself as one of the country's most dependable defenders. Born in Kono, Rivers State, he made his Super Eagles debut in 2001 and quickly emerged as a commanding presence in the heart of Nigeria's defence.

‎Yobo represented Nigeria at three FIFA World Cups in 2002, 2010, and 2014, as well as six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. His leadership reached its peak in 2013 when he captained the Super Eagles to their third AFCON title in South Africa, lifting the trophy in one of the nation's most memorable football moments.

‎His landmark 100th appearance came against France in the Round of 16 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, after which he announced his retirement from international football, ending a distinguished 13-year career.

‎Vincent Enyeama – 101 Caps (2002–2015)

‎Widely regarded as one of Africa's greatest goalkeepers, Vincent Enyeama became the second Nigerian player to reach the 100-cap milestone. Making his debut in 2002, he remained Nigeria's first-choice goalkeeper for more than a decade, earning admiration for his exceptional reflexes, composure, and leadership.

‎Enyeama featured at three FIFA World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, playing a pivotal role in Nigeria's victorious 2013 AFCON campaign, where he was recognised as the tournament's best goalkeeper and named in the Team of the Tournament.

‎His outstanding performances at the 2014 World Cup further enhanced his reputation, particularly during Nigeria's Round of 16 encounter against France. He earned his 100th cap in a friendly against Uganda on March 26, 2015, before retiring later that year with 101 international appearances.

‎Ahmed Musa – 111 Caps, 16 Goals (2010–2025)

‎Ahmed Musa remains Nigeria's most-capped player, having represented the Super Eagles 111 times during a remarkable 15-year international career.

‎Making his debut in 2010, the pacey winger became one of the team's most influential attacking players. His unforgettable brace against Iceland at the 2018 FIFA World Cup remains one of Nigeria's finest World Cup performances in recent history.

‎Musa was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and later added a bronze medal in 2019 and a silver medal in 2023. He also captained the national team through several major competitions, demonstrating commitment and leadership throughout his career.

‎After spells with clubs including CSKA Moscow and Leicester City, Musa concluded his international career as Nigeria's record appearance holder, a testament to his longevity and dedication.

‎Alex Iwobi – 99 Caps, 10 Goals (2015–Present)

‎Alex Iwobi now stands on the verge of joining Nigeria's exclusive centurion club after making 99 appearances for the Super Eagles since his debut in 2015.

‎Although eligible to represent England after progressing through its youth ranks, Iwobi chose Nigeria, describing the decision as one made from the heart.

‎"I am proud to be where I am today and proud to wear the green-and-white. I have no regrets choosing Nigeria," he told NFF Media.

‎The nephew of Nigerian football icon Austin Jay-Jay Okocha said his experience with the Nigeria Under-23 team convinced him that representing the country was the right decision.

‎"I felt at home. No disrespect to England because I had a good time there, but Nigeria is where my heart is," he said.

‎Iwobi made his senior debut on October 8, 2015, in a friendly against DR Congo in Visé, Belgium, and has since become one of the Super Eagles' most versatile and dependable midfielders.

‎One of his defining moments came on October 7, 2017, when he scored the decisive goal against Zambia in Uyo to secure Nigeria's qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

‎The midfielder has represented Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, winning silver in 2023 and bronze medals in 2019 and 2025. Across 99 appearances, he has contributed 10 goals and eight assists.

‎As he prepares for his landmark 100th cap, Iwobi joins a distinguished lineage of Super Eagles legends whose commitment and service have left an enduring mark on Nigerian football.
