Empowerment Foundation, a humanitarian NGO based in Owerri, Imo State, founded by Comr. Christian Mike Onyekachi, has announced education support for students of Agwa, empowerment for petty traders and a donation towards a church building project.
Onyekachi made the announcement on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Uwaorie Parish, during the funeral Mass of the late Hon. Chief Sir Ethelbert Nnanna Nze, popularly known as “Watch Out.” The Mass was conducted by the Parish Priest, Fr. Jude Uche.
Onyekachi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who contested for the position of the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency, attended the burial with his entourage.
Responding to passionate appeals made by the Parish Priest after his homily, Onyekachi condoled with the family of the late Hon. Nnanna, the church and the people of Mbano Agwa Autonomous Community.
He described the death of Nnanna as a huge loss to Agwa, noting that although the period he became close to the deceased was short, their relationship was revealing and mutual.
“The late Watch was my leader and friend for the little time I came close with him and therefore, as the Founder of MYKE and JOY Foundation, I am donating the sum of ₦200,000 to support the church project, and another ₦200,000 for four petty traders in this Parish, and let it be given to the first four persons that attended this burial Mass,” Onyekachi said.
He further announced the sponsorship of 10 students for WAEC registration and 20 persons for JAMB registration for the 2026/2027 academic session.
“As the Founder of MYKE and JOY Foundation whose stories of education, skills and entrepreneur empowerment are all over the state, we shall be sponsoring 10 students of this Parish and 20 for WAEC and JAMB registrations. We are doing this to deepen our commitment to education of our people and well-being of society,” he said.
The Parish Priest, Fr. Jude Uche, appreciated the generosity of Onyekachi and prayed for God’s blessing and protection upon him.
Onyekachi, a realtor and a player in the real estate sector, has sponsored scholarship programmes, skill acquisition initiatives and trade grants for people in Imo State. He is also the Founder of the Liberation Movement for the betterment of the people of the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency and beyond.
The late Hon. Ethelbert Nnanna Nze was a prominent administrator and politician in Oguta and Imo State. His public service began at the defunct Environmental Sanitation Authority, Aba, Abia State, where he worked as a cashier from 1982 to 1988.
Following the creation of Abia State on 27 August 1991, he moved to Imo State to work with Ada Palm Nigeria Limited, where he rose through the positions of Storekeeper, Account Clerk and Purchasing Officer to become Administrative Manager between 2000 and 2003.
Politically, Nnanna was a member of the 4th Assembly of the Imo State House of Assembly under the administration of Chief Achike Udenwa from 2003 to 2007, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He was later appointed Transitional Committee Chairman of Oguta Local Government Area during the tenure of Chief Ikedi Ohakim as Governor of Imo State and subsequently appointed Special Assistant to the Governor on Contact and Mobilization.
Before his death, Watch Out held the position of Traditional Prime Minister (TPM) of Mbano Agwa Autonomous Community.
The support announced by the MYKE JOY Foundation underscores the importance of education for vulnerable and less-privileged members of society, with the foundation emphasizing education as the bedrock of civilization.
The donation to the church project also reflects the foundation’s support for faith and religious institutions as partners in nation-building, cultural exchange and societal advancement.
