NDC Leader Seriake Dickson Says Party Has Resolved Internal Battles, Targets 2027 Victory

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party, saying the NDC has moved beyond internal disagreements and is now focused on winning the 2027 general elections.
Dickson made the declaration during an interview while outlining the party's political strategy and priorities as it prepares for the next electoral contest.
The former Bayelsa State governor said he remained firmly identified with the NDC, dismissing suggestions that he belonged to either the Kwankwasiyya movement or the Obedient movement.
"I'm not a member of Kwankwasiyya. I'm not a member of Obedient. I am NDC," Dickson said.
He explained that while various support groups and political movements associated with prominent politicians may retain their individual identities, their principals are now connected to the NDC's presidential and vice-presidential ticket.
According to him, the emergence of the party's candidates has brought an end to the major internal contests that previously occupied the attention of party members.
"There are no internal battles to fight in the NDC. We have decided candidature. The next stage of the battle, strategically, is to win the election," he stated.
Dickson subsequently urged members and supporters of the party to redirect their energy towards political mobilisation and engagement with Nigerians across the country.
He said the immediate task before the NDC was to communicate its message to the electorate, expand its support base and persuade Nigerians to support the party ahead of the 2027 presidential and other elections.
The NDC leader's comments come as political parties and emerging political movements intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with parties expected to begin broader grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement.
Dickson also spoke on security concerns surrounding the party's activities, particularly the recent attack involving the convoy of the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Benue State.
He condemned the incident and called for a comprehensive investigation to establish those behind the attack.
According to Dickson, the arrest of suspected perpetrators should not mark the end of the investigation. He insisted that the authorities must determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those who organised or sponsored it and ensure that anyone found culpable faces prosecution.
He stressed that addressing political violence requires more than the arrest of individuals allegedly involved in an incident, arguing that investigators should also establish whether the suspects acted independently or were sponsored by other persons.
The NDC national leader's position underscores the party's stated intention to combine electoral mobilisation with demands for a secure political environment ahead of the 2027 elections.
With its presidential and vice-presidential candidates already identified, Dickson said the party's attention should now be concentrated on the larger objective of securing victory at the polls.
He therefore encouraged NDC supporters to remain united, engage voters and take the party's message to communities across Nigeria as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
