NDC LGA CHAIRMEN OF OHAJI-EGBEMA/OGUTA/ORU-FEDERAL VISITS APEX LEADER AMANZE OBI

OWERRI, IMO STATE, NIGERIA — The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Local Government Area chairmen in the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency have paid a strategic interactive visit to the party’s Apex Leader in the constituency, Hon. Amanze Obi, PhD, as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The delegation comprised the NDC LGA Chairman for Ohaji-Egbema, Hon. Victor Onyedikachi Azugwu; Oru-West LGA Chairman, Pastor Chris Iwu Obiefule; and Oguta LGA Chairman, Engr. Cliff Onwundu.
The meeting, held in Owerri, centred on developments within the three LGAs, grassroots mobilisation, party unity and strategies for supporting NDC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Azugwu said the delegation visited Obi to appreciate his commitment and support for the party and to brief him on political activities in Ohaji-Egbema.
“According to Azugwu, we are here to appreciate our Apex Leader for his love and commitment to the party and its success. He has shown us great support from day one, and he is someone of great value and worth,” he said.
He added: “NDC in Ohaji-Egbema will deliver 5/5 — President, Senate, House of Representatives, House of Assembly and Governor.”
On his part, the Oguta LGA Chairman, Engr. Cliff Onwundu, said the party was strengthening its structure in Oguta and that the purpose of the visit was to brief the Apex Leader on developments within the LGA and the wider federal constituency.
“NDC in Oguta is ready for the general elections. It is our duty to work for the party’s victory come 2027 because the electorate is with us. Our Apex Leader is a gift to our federal constituency. He is always accessible to the three LGAs and keeps track of grassroots mobilisation. So, we are here to share more ideas and brief him,” he said.
The Oru-West chairman also expressed confidence in the party’s grassroots structure in the LGA, while criticising the performance of the ruling party.
“The ruling party in Oru-West knows that it has no chance in the 2027 elections. What are they going to tell us? NDC has come to stay for good governance, and Nigerians cannot afford to miss Peter Obi,” he said.
He added that the delegation’s determination was reflected in its decision to attend the meeting despite the rain.
“We thank God that our discussion with the Apex Leader has come to fruition. We defied the rain to be here, and that tells you how serious Oru-West and NDC in the three constituencies are. Our grassroots connection is formidable, and the people are with us. We shall deliver NDC in 2027. We appreciate Dr. Amanze Obi; he is a good and supportive leader,” he said.
Responding, Obi described the meeting as an interactive session designed to receive feedback from the three LGA chairmen, assess activities at the ward level and evaluate the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.
He advised the chairmen to work closely with party leaders and candidates in their respective LGAs, stressing the importance of cooperation within the party structure.
According to him, the political process had moved beyond the primaries, with candidates now emerging for the various elective positions.
“The stage of politics has moved away from the party to the candidates because the days of primaries are over. Candidates have emerged. For us to win the elections, all party machinery must work together with the candidates and our supporters,” Obi said.
Obi also acknowledged that the NDC had faced challenges arising from the relatively short period between its recognition and its entry into electoral contests.
He said the party leadership, from the national to the state level, had taken steps to address those challenges, adding that the focus should now be on building the party and supporting its candidates.
“I want to commend the LGA chairmen for doing wonderful jobs in their various locations. NDC is our party, and we must deliver His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, and all the candidates contesting elections under NDC. It is a commitment we have made to ourselves, and we must pursue it tenaciously,” he said.
He further urged the chairmen to intensify grassroots engagement.
“I know the guys are doing well, but like Oliver Twist would say, I need more. Let them continue deepening the grassroots, reaching out to the people and encouraging more support for NDC,” he said.
Obi, a veteran journalist and former Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy as well as Culture and Tourism, also previously served as Director-General of the Ahiajoku Institute during the Ihedioha administration, according to published reports.
The meeting underscored the role of grassroots feedback, internal coordination and engagement between party leaders and LGA structures as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.
