Growing political sentiment across Okigwe North Federal Constituency continues to mount against any attempt to return the House of Representatives ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Stakeholders and concerned voices within the constituency have warned that denying Onuimo Local Government Area the opportunity to produce the next APC candidate could trigger political backlash capable of weakening the party’s dominance in the constituency.
According to political observers and party loyalists in the area, the agitation is rooted in the long-standing spirit of equity, fairness, and mutual coexistence among the three constituent local government areas of Okigwe North Federal Constituency — Okigwe, Onuimo, and Isiala Mbano.
They argue that the current agitation reflects widespread public sentiment that the APC ticket should rotate to Onuimo in the interest of justice and political balance, warning that any contrary decision may alienate grassroots supporters and create openings for opposition parties.
The concerns come amid increasing resistance to what critics describe as an alleged third-term agenda by Hon. Miriam Onuoha, with many insisting that such a move does not align with the prevailing mood of the people.
Some party faithful maintain that the APC risks losing substantial support in the constituency if it ignores the growing calls for power rotation to Onuimo, stressing that voters may rally behind any credible opposition candidate from the area should the party fail to heed public opinion.
Political analysts within the constituency believe the issue has gone beyond individual ambition and now represents a broader test of the APC’s internal cohesion and sensitivity to grassroots expectations ahead of 2027.
They further noted that the party still has ample opportunity to avoid unnecessary internal conflict by embracing what they described as a “progressive and inclusive decision” capable of preserving unity and sustaining the APC’s electoral strength in Okigwe North.
Observers say the coming days, beginning from Friday, May 15, will be critical as consultations and political alignments intensify across the constituency over the battle for the APC ticket. They added that, going by the governor’s recent remarks, it would be respectful and honourable for aspirants and delegates to uphold zoning arrangements where they are strongly recognised and accepted.
