The Oyo State Government has mobilised support for the rescue of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Oyo State origin who were abducted in Imo State.

The government, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said Governor Seyi Makinde had directed the deployment of necessary resources to support ongoing efforts to secure the safe release of the affected corps members.

The development followed reports of the abduction of prospective corps members and other passengers along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State.

According to the Oyo State Government, the welfare and safety of its indigenes remain a priority, regardless of where they are located across the country.

Oyelade said the state government was working with relevant security agencies, the Imo State Government and the NYSC leadership to coordinate efforts aimed at securing the release of the abducted corps members.

He said the government was monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to support the ongoing rescue operation.
The commissioner appealed to the families of the affected corps members to remain calm, assuring them that the state government was actively involved in efforts to bring the situation to a safe resolution.

He also called on security agencies involved in the operation to intensify their efforts to locate the abducted corps members and ensure their safe return.

Oyelade said the government expected those responsible for the abduction to be identified and brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The Oyo State Government further expressed solidarity with the affected corps members, their families and members of the NYSC community over the incident.

The government said it would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to strengthen measures aimed at protecting Oyo indigenes and preventing similar incidents in the future.
The abduction has heightened concerns over the safety of young Nigerians travelling to different parts of the country for national service.

The NYSC scheme, established to promote national integration and foster interaction among young Nigerians from different parts of the country, deploys graduates to states outside their places of origin for a mandatory period of national service.

The Oyo State Government said its immediate priority remained supporting the ongoing efforts to secure the safe release of the affected corps members.

It urged families and other concerned persons to rely on verified information from the authorities as security agencies continue their operations.
