AGWA, OGUTA LGA, IMO STATE — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, has welcomed the party’s candidate for the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency, Hon. High Chief Joseph Chukwuemeka Ikunna; the PDP candidate for Oguta State Constituency, Barr. Vivian Otti; and the Oguta Local Government Area Party Chairman, Barr. Emeka Nze Ojure-Amadi, to the burial of late Hon. Chief Sir Ethelbert Nnanna Nze, popularly known as “Watch Out.”
The PDP delegation was received by party leaders from Agwa at the reception ground of Obeama Primary School during the burial ceremony on Friday, 25 September, 2026.
Speaking to Inside Agwa News on behalf of the three ward chairmen, the Obudi/Aro Ward Chairman, Mr. Charles Obinna Uzoaru, appreciated the team led by the Oguta LGA PDP Chairman, Barr. Emeka Nze Ojure-Amadi, for what he described as great leadership.
Uzoaru said the significance of the visit went beyond condolences, noting that it demonstrated the values of the PDP in institutional memory and empathy towards families during their most challenging times.
He further acknowledged the political contributions of the late Watch Out, describing him as a prominent figure in Oguta politics whose political career had significant links with the PDP.
“The man called Watch Out was one of strong voices in Oguta politics. And PDP as a party recognised that Watch Out had the biggest political platform of his life under PDP, from House of Assembly Member in 2003–2007, Transitional Committee Chairman of Oguta from 2008–2010, SA to the Governor on Contact and Mobilization, all were under the PDP,” Uzoaru said.
According to him, the presence of the PDP candidates at the burial also demonstrated what he described as political sensibility and responsiveness.
“To our candidates, Chief Ikunna and Barr. Otti, it shows their political sensibility and responsiveness. Watch Out is not PDP member, but APC before he died, but our candidates recognise first, humanity before politics; secondly, that Agwa is part of their constituencies,” he said.
Uzoaru added that the gesture, in his view, represented inclusive leadership and reflected what the PDP candidates were bringing to the people if elected.
The PDP ward chairman, while speaking on the party’s readiness for the 2027 elections, said the party remained active in Agwa.
“PDP is intact in Agwa. It is the only true structured political party in Nigeria with verified membership data, not rented crowd, having led Nigeria for 16 years. All the wards in Agwa are waxing very strong. Our grassroots mobilization is very active. Agwa is originally PDP and we shall deliver all our candidates come 2027,” he concluded.
The late Hon. Chief Sir Ethelbert Nnanna Nze was a prominent administrator and politician in Oguta and Imo State. He began his public service career at the defunct Environmental Sanitation Authority, Aba, where he worked as a cashier from 1982 to 1988.
Following the creation of Abia State in 1991, he moved to Imo State and joined Ada Palm Nigeria Limited, where he rose through positions including Storekeeper, Account Clerk and Purchasing Officer before becoming Administrative Manager between 2000 and 2003.
Nnanna later represented Oguta State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007 on the platform of the PDP.
He subsequently served as Transitional Committee Chairman of Oguta Local Government Area during the administration of former Governor Ikedi Ohakim and was later appointed Special Assistant to the Governor on Contact and Mobilization. He was also the Traditional Prime Minister of Mbano Agwa Autonomous Community before his death.
The burial brought together political leaders, candidates, community leaders, family members and sympathisers, underscoring the participation of political actors from different backgrounds in mourning the late former lawmaker.
Among those present were Hon. Emeka Nze Ojure, Chairman of the PDP in Oguta LGA; Dr. (Mrs.) Vivian Oti, PDP candidate for Oguta State Constituency; Mr. Charles Obinna Uzoaru, Obudi/Aro Ward Chairman; Mr. Ojiade Chimezie, Mgbala/Ubah Ward Chairman; Mr. Fred Chukwuemeka, and other party and community stakeholders.
The visit also highlighted the role of political solidarity during moments of mourning, as party leaders and candidates joined the people of Agwa to pay their respects to the late “Watch Out.”
