Prof. Chihurumnanya Alo Assumes Office as DUFUTH's Second Substantive Chief Medical Director

Prof. Chihurumnanya Alo has officially assumed office as the second substantive Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu, Ebonyi State, with effect from July 1, 2026.
He succeeds the immediate past Chief Medical Director, Prof. Uzoma Agwu, who previously led the institution.
Prof. Alo is a Consultant Public Health Physician and Infectious Diseases Specialist with over 22 years of experience in Community Medicine and Epidemiology. His appointment is expected to strengthen the hospital's commitment to quality healthcare delivery, medical education, and research.
A Fellow of the West African College of Physicians in Community Medicine, Prof. Alo also holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Before his appointment, he served as a Professor of Community Medicine at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo, Ebonyi State. He also held the position of Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, where he contributed significantly to strengthening primary healthcare services across the state.
His professional expertise spans disease prevention and control, health systems management, programme monitoring and evaluation, with particular focus on tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other priority public health conditions.
A native of Oshiri in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Prof. Alo brings extensive experience in public health administration and policy implementation to his new role as the head of DUFUTH.
The announcement of his assumption of office was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Head of Information and Public Relations of the hospital, Mr. Okorie A. Nwogo.
