Former member of the House of Representatives for the Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency, Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima MFR (Omeudo), has called on constituents to use the 2027 general election to pursue what he described as a new direction in the political representation of the constituency.
Chima made the call in an Independence Day message to constituents, in which he described independence as a symbol of freedom and urged the people to begin what he termed a journey towards freeing the constituency from “legislative captivity, poor representation and years of missed opportunities.”
The full speech was made available to the Press by Omeudo Media Gazette.
In the statement, Chima extended Independence Day greetings to the people of Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West, while linking the significance of Nigeria’s independence to the need for effective representation and greater attention to the concerns of constituents.
He said the occasion should provide an opportunity for the people to reflect on the quality of representation they desire and begin the process of reconnecting the constituency to the centre of government.
According to him, the people should work collectively to ensure that their voice is heard and their interests are actively represented at the National Assembly.
Chima, who represented the constituency in the House of Representatives between 2019 and 2023, is seeking to return to the National Assembly in 2027 on the platform of the Action Peoples Party (APP).
In his Independence message, he also referenced the 2027 election, urging constituents to make what he called a statement at the polling units.
“Come 2027, let us make a statement at the polling units,” he said, adding that the objective should be to return on a future Independence Day “with thanksgiving to God for the new direction our people have chosen.”
Chima further called for collective participation in the political process, stressing that the task of improving representation could not be accomplished by one individual.
He urged constituents to work together towards delivering the constituency to a representative who, in his words, would stand firmly for the people and speak courageously about their challenges and aspirations.
The former federal lawmaker also outlined what he considers important qualities for effective representation, identifying experience, technical know-how, commitment and zeal to deliver for the people as necessary attributes.
“We need a man with experience, technical know-how, commitment and the zeal to deliver for his people,” he stated.
Chima subsequently appealed to constituents to support the APP in the 2027 election for the Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency.
He presented his previous legislative experience as part of the basis for his renewed bid, stating that he had served the constituency before and was offering himself for service again.
“Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima MFR (Omeudo) represents the experience and commitment we believe our constituency needs. He has done it before, and he is presenting himself to serve again,” the statement said.
Chima concluded the message by reiterating his Independence Day greetings and wishing constituents continued blessings.
His return to the political contest has already featured in reports on the emerging 2027 race in the constituency, with his previous tenure and current APP candidacy becoming part of the political discussion ahead of the election.
