‎Political tensions in Abia State have intensified following allegations by the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, that he was unlawfully detained at Kuje Custodial Centre at the instance of former Minister of State for Labour and Employment.

‎Ogah made the allegation shortly after regaining his freedom in a video that has since gone viral on social media. In the footage, an emotional lawmaker accused Onyejeocha of being responsible for his detention and called on his supporters to vote her out of office in the 2027 general elections. During the address, he also made remarks suggesting she should return "to her husband's house to cook," comments that have generated mixed reactions among members of the public.

‎The federal lawmaker was also seen singing Christian songs while repeatedly mentioning Onyejeocha's name and expressing confidence that he would defeat her decisively in the next election cycle. The video has continued to circulate widely across various social media platforms, attracting significant public attention and political commentary.

‎The allegations have raised broader concerns about the state of Nigeria's democratic institutions and the administration of justice. Many Nigerians have questioned how a serving member of the House of Representatives could allegedly be detained in connection with a political dispute, with several observers calling for a transparent clarification of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

‎As of the time of filing this report, Onyejeocha had not publicly responded to the allegations. Efforts to obtain comments from her or members of her media team were unsuccessful.

‎Political analysts have urged all political actors to exercise restraint and maturity in their public utterances, particularly as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum. According to them, politically charged accusations and inflammatory rhetoric, if left unchecked, could further polarize supporters, inflame tensions within the public space, and potentially trigger avoidable confrontations capable of undermining public peace and safety.

‎Analysts further stressed that disagreements among political opponents should be resolved through lawful and democratic means, emphasizing that the credibility of Nigeria's democracy depends on respect for due process, the rule of law, and responsible political engagement. They also called on relevant authorities to ensure that any allegations of abuse of power or misuse of state institutions are investigated impartially in order to strengthen public confidence in democratic governance.
