‎Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election, alleging that the process was compromised by widespread irregularities and voter exclusion.

‎In a statement shared on his X account on Wednesday, Amaechi described the results announced by the party as inconsistent with democratic standards and claimed that the exercise failed to reflect the wishes of the party’s membership across the country.

‎The former Governor of Rivers State said he could not accept what he termed “concocted results,” maintaining that his commitment to respecting the outcome of the primaries was conditional upon the conduct of a free, fair, and transparent process.

‎According to him, the election fell short of those expectations, alleging that a significant number of eligible party members were denied the opportunity to participate in the voting exercise.

‎Amaechi argued that the reported exclusion of party members undermined the credibility of the process and raised concerns about the integrity of the primary election. He maintained that the level of participation recorded did not accurately represent the strength and diversity of the party’s membership.

‎The former minister further criticized the party leadership, accusing it of engaging in practices that opposition parties have often condemned in the administration of elections. He contended that political organizations seeking to promote democratic reforms must themselves adhere to the principles of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness.

‎He stressed that the ADC was established to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative capable of addressing governance challenges and restoring public confidence in the democratic process.

‎Amaechi also reiterated his belief that the party’s mission should remain focused on advancing the interests of ordinary Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or social backgrounds, while promoting good governance and national development.

‎His rejection of the primary election results is expected to intensify internal debates within the African Democratic Congress as it prepares for the 2027 general elections and seeks to consolidate support ahead of the presidential contest.

‎Party officials are yet to issue a formal response to the allegations raised by the former presidential aspirant.
