‎The Anambra State Government has confirmed the rescue of a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse by his guardian and her husband in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

‎The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, disclosed that the child is now under government protection and receiving medical treatment following public outrage over viral videos that showed him with severe burns, scalded skin, and multiple injuries.

‎According to the commissioner, the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, working in collaboration with women leaders from the Obosi community, promptly intervened after the incident came to public attention. Officials have since visited the child to assess his condition and provide the necessary care and support.

‎Onyekesi expressed appreciation to residents and concerned citizens whose timely reports made the rescue possible, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.

‎“I want to thank the good and caring people of Anambra State for bringing this case to our notice. The boy is receiving treatment now,” the commissioner said.

‎She assured the public that the state government remains committed to protecting children's rights and welfare, adding that all individuals found culpable in the alleged abuse would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

‎Describing the incident as inhumane and unacceptable, Onyekesi reaffirmed the government's determination to ensure justice for the victim while strengthening efforts to safeguard children across the state.

‎The case has continued to attract widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and stronger measures to prevent child abuse and neglect.
