‎Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma has said divorce can be a healthy decision when a marriage becomes emotionally unhealthy or unbearable for those involved.

‎Speaking during a recent appearance on The Morayo Show, Bovi said he believes ending a troubled marriage can allow individuals to regain their well-being rather than remain in an unhappy relationship.

‎“I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody, nor will I want anybody to suffer me,” he said.

‎The comedian explained that he does not view divorce as a failure but as an indication that one or both partners were no longer thriving in the relationship.

‎Despite his stance, Bovi emphasized that he remains committed to the institution of marriage, revealing that his 17-year union has not been without challenges.

‎He said sustaining his family has required continuous commitment and responsibility, noting that he has provided for his household since marrying at the age of 29.

‎“That is not to say my marriage has been easy for 17 years. It has not. I got married at 29. I have been providing for 17 years nonstop,” he said.

‎Bovi also spoke on gender roles in marriage, acknowledging the traditional expectation that men should provide for their families while arguing that women who willingly contribute financially should be appreciated.

‎According to him, when a woman's passion and ambition drive her to support the family financially, her efforts deserve recognition and respect.

‎His comments have added to ongoing conversations about marriage, divorce, and shared responsibilities within families.
