BREAKING: Amaechi Picks ADC Presidential Nomination Form, Signals Fierce Battle for 2027 Ticket
Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially obtained the presidential nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), formally declaring his intention to contest the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi, regarded as one of the leading contenders within the ADC, is expected to face strong competition during the party’s primary election, including from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in both the 2019 and 2023 elections.
Also in the race is former Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, who has previously declared interest in contesting for the ADC presidential ticket.
Amaechi, a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Director-General of late President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaign, remains one of Nigeria’s most influential political figures, with deep roots across the country’s political landscape.
His decision to pick the ADC nomination form is expected to reshape political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition forces continue consultations and strategic realignments aimed at challenging the ruling party.
Political observers say the development signals the beginning of what could become one of the most competitive presidential primary contests in recent Nigerian political history.
