The Catholic community in Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, is set to witness a historic moment as Christ the King Catholic Church, Agwa, prepares to celebrate the Priestly Ordination and Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving of Rev. Saviour Obinna Akalador.

According to an official invitation made available to Inside Agwa News, the solemn celebration will hold on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Agwa, with family members, parishioners, clergy, religious, friends, and well-wishers expected to attend.

The sacred ordination will be conferred by His Grace, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese and Metropolitan of the Owerri Ecclesiastical Province.

The invitation, issued with gratitude to God Almighty, the Parish Priest, and the entire Christ the King Catholic Church Agwa community, warmly invites the faithful to participate in the joyous occasion marking Rev. Akalador's elevation to the sacred priesthood.

The event will also feature a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving, during which the newly ordained priest will offer thanksgiving to God for the gift of his vocation while seeking continued prayers and support from the faithful.

Rev. Saviour Obinna Akalador hails from Umuelendu Ihuoba Obudi, Agwa in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State. His ordination is regarded as a significant spiritual milestone not only for his immediate family but also for the entire Agwa community and the Catholic faithful across the Owerri Archdiocese.

Catholics believe that priestly ordination is one of the seven sacraments of the Church through which a man is configured to Christ and receives the sacred authority to celebrate the Holy Eucharist, administer the sacraments, preach the Gospel, and shepherd God's people. The occasion is therefore celebrated with profound joy, thanksgiving, and prayer.

The faithful have been encouraged to attend the liturgical celebration, unite in prayer with the ordinand, and thank God for the gift of new vocations to the priesthood.

The Catholic Church considers the priesthood a sacred vocation through which God calls chosen men to serve His people in the ministry of Word and Sacrament. During the Rite of Ordination, the bishop lays hands on the ordinand and offers the Prayer of Ordination, conferring the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

Ordinations are among the most significant celebrations in the life of the Church, symbolizing the continuity of apostolic ministry entrusted by Christ to His Apostles. The newly ordained priest begins his pastoral ministry by celebrating a Thanksgiving Mass, expressing gratitude to God and seeking divine grace for a life of faithful service.

For the Agwa Catholic community, the ordination of Rev. Saviour Obinna Akalador represents another source of pride and spiritual renewal, inspiring young people to embrace lives of faith, service, and commitment to God's call.
