CHUDI EGWE ATTENDS NDC NATIONAL CONVENTION, COMMENDS SOUTHERN PRESIDENCY ZONING AS PARTY EMERGES AS A MAJOR 2027 DEMOCRATIC FORCE

‎Hon. (Barr.) Chudi Egwe Evans, a frontline House of Representatives aspirant for the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency of Imo State, joined thousands of delegates, party leaders, political stakeholders, and democracy advocates at the historic Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) National Convention held in Abuja on Saturday, May 9, at the Los Angeles Event Center, Abuja.

‎The convention, widely regarded as one of the most significant political gatherings ahead of the 2027 general elections, drew prominent national figures from across Nigeria’s political spectrum and further positioned the NDC as an emerging national platform championing democratic participation, inclusion, justice, and credible opposition politics.

‎Among the high-profile dignitaries at the convention were His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate; Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 NNPP Presidential Candidate; Senator Seriake Dickson; Engr. Buba Galadima; Senator Victor Umeh; Senator Aisha Benani; Ms. Aisha Yesufu; Barr. Morgan Ikenna Anekweizu, National Secretary of the party; and Barr. Reginald Uwakwe, the Imo State Chairman of the NDC, whose leadership and growing influence within the party structure attracted widespread commendation from delegates and observers alike.

‎The Abuja convention witnessed massive participation from youths, women groups, civil society organizations, professionals, grassroots mobilizers, and political actors from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, reinforcing the growing national acceptance of the NDC as a credible democratic alternative ahead of the 2027 polls.

‎Speaking shortly after the convention during interviews with Delegate TV and News Central, Hon. Chudi Egwe Evans described the event as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic history and applauded the leadership of the NDC for its commitment to fairness, internal democracy, and national unity.

‎The Obiakpu Autonomous Community-born lawyer and politician, who is widely recognized across the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency for his grassroots connection, accessibility, and people-oriented political philosophy, said the convention reflected the genuine aspirations of Nigerians seeking a new direction for the country.

‎“History has been made today, and that history is for Nigerians and lovers of good governance and democracy. We have witnessed one of the freest, fairest, and momentous conventions in the history of Nigeria about the NDC, a party of Nigerians, by Nigerians and for Nigerians,” he stated.

‎According to him, the large turnout of party faithful and political stakeholders from every region of the country was a clear indication that Nigerians were ready to embrace a new democratic movement capable of restoring hope, accountability, and responsible governance.

‎“Yes, seeing the caliber of people that have thronged this venue today is the largest acceptance of democratic appeals from Nigeria and Nigerians, and seeing delegates and leadership of NDC zoning the presidential tickets of NDC to the South is an expression rooted in fairness, equity, and justice. It is an attempt at national democratic healing and unity, against the deviance of the ADC, who ought to follow other parties in zoning of the presidency to the South in the spirit of National unity,” he added.

‎Observers at the convention noted that the decision of the NDC to zone its presidential ticket to the South for a single four-year term further strengthened the party’s image as a platform committed to equity, inclusion, and national balance, especially at a time when many Nigerians are demanding fairness in the country’s political leadership structure.

‎Hon. Chudi Egwe Evans also used the opportunity to urge the party leadership to sustain internal democracy and avoid the political pitfalls that weakened several opposition parties in the past.

‎“I must use this opportunity to appeal to the leadership of our great party to follow due process in its dealings. Avoid the allure of imposition and undemocratic tendencies that have created several crises amongst opposition parties. Our party is virgin, let her virginity and acceptance by Nigerian leads her to electoral victories come 2027,” he said.

‎On the prospects of the NDC in the 2027 general elections, the federal lawmaker hopeful expressed confidence that the party had already become the preferred political destination for millions of Nigerians.

‎“Nigerians will vote for their choice not party, and if I may remind you, the only political choice of Nigeria going into the 2027 elections is the NDC and Mr. Peter Obi and Kwankwaso. This combination known as the ‘OK Movement’ is the political orbit of Nigeria I can assure you. We have the people and structures across the 36 States and FCT to win the elections, and in my State Imo, NDC has taken over,” he declared.

‎Political analysts at the convention described Barr. Chudi Egwe Evans is one of the emerging grassroots political voices in Imo State whose growing popularity continues to resonate strongly across Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, and Oru-West Federal Constituency due to his people-focused engagements, consultations, and expanding support base among youths and community leaders.

‎Barr. Egwe had earlier resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following consultations with his political associates, constituents, and members of the Chudification Campaign Team, who subsequently aligned with the NDC movement ahead of the 2027 elections.

‎Supporters of the Chudification political structure present at the convention included Engr. Desmond Kelechi Oba, Engr. Nonye Egwe Evans, Engr. Placidus Oba, Engr. Emeka Toke, and Hon. John Mbonu Uchenwoke-Ekperechi, among several others.

‎The convention is expected to further strengthen the political momentum of the NDC nationally while consolidating Hon. Chudi Egwe Evans’ rising influence within the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency as political activities toward the 2027 general elections continue to intensify across the country.
