By Rita Onuoha
Hon. Blessings Onuh, widely identified as the daughter of former Senate President, David Mark, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the House of Representatives in Benue State following the party’s recent primaries.
Onuh, who has represented her constituency under the APC since 2019, was declared the winner of the primary election and is now set to contest the forthcoming general election on the party’s platform.
Following her emergence, Onuh publicly expressed support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that his administration offers a pathway toward continued national development and stability.
Her declaration has generated political conversations, particularly given her family background and the broader dynamics of party affiliations involving prominent political figures. The development comes at a time when opposition coalitions, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), are attempting to consolidate strength ahead of future elections.
Her father, David Mark, a prominent political figure and National Chairman linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been associated with ongoing opposition realignments, while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remains a central figure in opposition politics under the ADC and a leading presidential aspirant alongside Rotimi Amaechi.
However, recent developments involving endorsements from individuals linked to these political families have sparked wider debate about cohesion within opposition ranks and the evolving nature of political loyalty ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Political observers say the situation reflects Nigeria’s increasingly fluid party system, where personal influence, regional interests, and strategic alignments often intersect beyond strict party ideology.
The APC has yet to issue an official statement on the development, while reactions continue to trail the outcome of the primaries and the subsequent endorsement of the President by the candidate.
