‎Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has clarified the nature of his relationship with Seyi Tinubu following public reactions to his recent comments on insecurity, governance, and social challenges in Nigeria.

‎The award-winning singer had earlier taken to the social media platform X on Saturday, expressing concern over the state of the country and urging public figures, including entertainers, to become more vocal on issues affecting citizens.
‎According to Davido, entertainers have not done enough to speak out against the challenges confronting Nigerians, including widespread insecurity and perceived injustices.

‎“I can’t lie, we entertainers… we dey mess up, including me. We need to speak up. There’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go,” he wrote.

‎His remarks generated significant debate online, with some users questioning the sincerity of his position due to his perceived association with individuals close to the current administration.
‎One social media user, identified as @princessluna237, alleged that the singer’s comments were inconsistent with his friendship with members of President Bola Tinubu’s family, particularly Seyi Tinubu.

‎In response, Davido firmly rejected suggestions that he belongs to any political group or movement, stating that his personal relationships do not prevent him from expressing concerns about national issues.

‎“I no dey part of any city boy group,” the singer stated in a direct response to the allegation.

‎Davido also recalled previous instances when he faced criticism after highlighting Nigeria’s challenges during interviews with international media outlets, noting that his views on governance and national development have remained consistent over time.

‎According to him, some Nigerians had condemned him in the past for discussing the country's difficulties on foreign platforms, despite his intention to draw attention to pressing concerns affecting citizens.

‎The music star further explained that his friendship with Seyi Tinubu is a long-standing personal relationship and should not be interpreted as a political affiliation or endorsement.

‎“I’ve been friends with ST for years and that’s where it stops. I call and complain to him all the time, even in person,” Davido wrote.

‎His clarification comes amid growing public conversations about the role of celebrities in addressing social and political issues, as well as expectations that influential figures use their platforms to advocate for good governance and national development.
