Engineer Chigozie Njemeni, popularly known as "Possible," has emerged as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Ohaji-Egbema State Constituency seat following the party's primary election held on May 28, 2026, at the Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Council Headquarters, Mmahu.
The primary election, which was conducted through a direct voting process, witnessed the participation of delegates and party officials from across the local government area. Following a successful accreditation exercise, ward chairmen from the various wards monitored the electoral process, which party stakeholders described as peaceful, transparent, and credible.
Three aspirants contested for the party's ticket. At the conclusion of voting and counting, Roland Ogbuka secured two votes, Engineer Collins Ohagwam polled four votes, while Engineer Chigozie Njemeni recorded a landslide victory with 150 votes.
Consequently, Engr. Njemeni was officially declared the winner and the party's candidate for the forthcoming Imo State House of Assembly election.
Speaking shortly after his declaration, Njemeni expressed gratitude to party members and supporters for their confidence in his leadership. He extended an olive branch to his fellow aspirants, urging them to unite with him in the collective effort to advance the interests of the Ohajithe-Egbema people.
"I have come to serve our people with the fear of God, humanity, integrity, and due diligence. If elected under our great party, the people of Ohaji-Egbema will clearly see the difference. We will uncommonly do simple things that will bring quality governance to our people and ensure that the voices of Ohaji-Egbema are strongly heard at Douglas House," he said.
The NDC flag bearer also appreciated the national leadership of the party, led by National Chairman Senator Cleopas Zuwoghe, National Secretary Barrister Morgan Ikenna Enekweizu, and National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson, for ensuring the successful conduct of primary elections across the country.
He further commended the leadership of the party in Imo State under the State Chairman, Barrister Reginald Uwakwe, members of the State Working Committee, and the Ohaji-Egbema chapter of the party led by LGA Chairman Mr. Victor Azugwu for providing a level playing field for all aspirants throughout the primary process.
Political observers noted that Njemeni's overwhelming victory underscores his strong grassroots appeal and longstanding relationship with party members and constituents across the local government area.
One female supporter, who preferred not to be identified, described the candidate as a compassionate leader with a genuine concern for the welfare of others.
"Njemeni is a good man with a good heart. He always reaches out to people and identifies with them in their times of need. We are supporting him because, among all the aspirants, he stands out as the most qualified to represent us," she said.
His emergence as the NDC candidate is widely seen as a reflection of the confidence reposed in him by grassroots supporters who have worked closely with him over the years and believe in his capacity to deliver effective representation for the people of Ohaji-Egbema.
