On Friday, July 10, 2026, social media platforms overflowed with heartfelt tributes celebrating one remarkable son of Agwa. Friends, family members, associates, development partners and admirers flooded timelines with photographs, prayers, testimonials and messages of appreciation. The digital space became a gallery of gratitude, demonstrating the profound impact one individual has made across different sectors of society.
Rather than join the rush of congratulatory messages, Inside Agwa News deliberately chose to reflect before writing. Today, July 11, 2026, we celebrate not merely the anniversary of a birth but the enduring legacy of a man whose life continues to inspire generations.
Today, we proudly celebrate Nduka Ozor—a gentleman of uncommon humility, a development expert, an accomplished public health professional, a community builder, a mentor, a bridge-builder and a leader whose influence reaches far beyond the boundaries of Agwa.
Born into the respected family of Ozor Anyadioha of Umuonyima, Mgbala Agwa in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, Nduka arrived at a time when his family already enjoyed a reputation for integrity, enterprise and honour. His father envisioned a son who would preserve the family's noble values. Time has shown that expectation was not misplaced.
From childhood, Nduka distinguished himself through discipline and spiritual devotion. While many children of his generation immersed themselves in traditional festivals such as Igbanga, Okoroshi and Igborioba, he devoted much of his youthful years to activities within the Catholic Church. Through the Block Rosary Movement, Bible Study groups and youth apostolic programmes, he cultivated virtues that would later define his public life—humility, compassion, discipline and servant leadership.
His educational journey equally reflected perseverance. Beginning at Alaoma Primary School, Mgbala Agwa, he later attended Trinity High School before family realities temporarily interrupted his studies. After spending several months in Port Harcourt, he returned home and enrolled as one of the pioneer students of Agwa Secondary School.
Even at that stage, excellence announced itself. His name frequently appeared on the school's Honour List, evidence of exceptional academic brilliance and unfliching commitment to learning.
Like many determined young Nigerians, he later moved to Lagos in pursuit of business opportunities while nurturing bigger academic ambitions. Those ambitions eventually found fulfilment when he gained admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication with Second Class Honours (Upper Division).
Recognising that education never truly ends, he advanced further to Lagos State University, earning a Master of Social Work (MSW), a qualification that strengthened his understanding of community development, social policy, programme management and sustainable human development.
Professional excellence soon followed academic preparation.
As Executive Director of the Centre for HIV/AIDS and STD Research (CHISTRE), Nduka Ozor has spent more than two decades leading interventions that have transformed public health outcomes across Nigeria. Under his stewardship, CHISTRE has successfully implemented programmes addressing HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Viral Hepatitis, Malaria, Immunisation, Neglected Tropical Diseases, COVID-19 response, Health Systems Strengthening and Universal Health Coverage.
His work has connected him with government institutions, international donor agencies and development partners committed to improving healthcare delivery. Beyond implementation, he has contributed significantly to developing national policies, strategic frameworks, operational guidelines and training manuals that continue to strengthen Nigeria's health sector.
Those who have worked closely with him often speak of a leader who combines technical competence with uncommon humility. His expertise in programme design, monitoring and evaluation, strategic planning, proposal development, grant management, stakeholder engagement and organisational development has earned him respect within Nigeria's development community.
Yet perhaps what distinguishes him most is his unwavering belief that leadership exists to serve people.
That philosophy has become even more visible in his role as President General of the Agwa Central Union (ACU).
At a period when many communities struggle with insecurity, youth unemployment and infrastructural decay, Nduka has consistently advocated practical solutions rooted in collective responsibility. Under his leadership, conversations around community security, educational advancement, youth empowerment, infrastructure development and diaspora participation have gained renewed momentum.
He has continually encouraged Agwa sons and daughters, both at home and across the world, to see community development not as the responsibility of government alone but as a shared civic obligation.
