‎Here are the top 10 national stories making headlines this Thursday morning:


‎1. The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address Nigeria's worsening insecurity and economic difficulties or consider stepping aside. The lawmakers warned that the country is witnessing increasing security threats, judicial controversies, and challenges to democratic governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.


‎2. Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has backed the party's newly introduced indemnity form designed to discourage defections. Through Kwankwasiyya spokesperson Habibu Saleh Mohammed, he described the policy as consistent with constitutional provisions that uphold party supremacy.


‎3. The El-Rufai Support Group Association (ERSGA) has partnered with Washington-based advocacy organisation Vanguard Africa to launch an international campaign highlighting concerns over due process, human rights, and the rule of law in Nigeria.


‎4. Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has ordered heightened security around schools across Katsina State to better protect students, teachers, and educational facilities. The directive was conveyed by Deputy Inspector-General Sulaiman Abdul during a two-day operational visit to the state.


‎5. The Nigerian currency weakened further on Wednesday, falling to ₦1,405 per dollar in the parallel market from ₦1,389 recorded the previous day. The naira also depreciated in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), closing at ₦1,361.5 per dollar.


‎6. Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been cleared of all bribery allegations in the United Kingdom after a jury at Southwark Crown Court returned not-guilty verdicts on six counts, including bribery and conspiracy charges.


‎7. An investigator from the Ilorin Zonal Office of the EFCC, Stanley Ujilibo, informed a Kwara State High Court that there was no evidence showing that funds from the alleged ₦5.78 billion SUBEB diversion were directly paid to former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.


‎8. The Nigerian Navy Ship, Delta, has dismantled a concealed crude oil storage facility used for illegal oil theft operations in Ugbokodo Creek, Delta State. The operation, carried out under "Delta Sentinel," followed intelligence reports on suspected illicit activities in the area.


‎9. Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has officially returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC). She was also presented as the PDP's senatorial candidate for Ogun Central ahead of the 2027 elections.


‎10. The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has distributed ₦2.3 trillion in May 2026 revenue to the Federal Government, the 36 states, and the 774 local government councils. The announcement was made by Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.
