The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its prohibition on graduation ceremonies for nursery, primary, and junior secondary school students, warning that any school that violates the directive will face immediate closure.
The state Ministry of Education said the policy applies to both public and private schools, stressing that elaborate graduation events impose unnecessary financial pressure on parents and divert attention from the primary goal of academic development.
According to government officials, all educational institutions are expected to comply fully with the directive as authorities intensify efforts to enforce the policy across the state.
The government maintained that the ban is aimed at protecting parents from avoidable expenses while ensuring that schools remain focused on teaching, learning, and the smooth implementation of the academic calendar.
To ensure strict adherence, supervision and monitoring teams have been deployed to all local government areas to oversee compliance and identify schools that may attempt to organize prohibited graduation ceremonies.
The state government reiterated its commitment to promoting quality education and responsible school administration, emphasizing that institutions found flouting the directive risk immediate shutdown and other regulatory sanctions.
