The Imo State Command of Man O’ War Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to justice, accountability, and the rule of law following the alleged killing of a 100-level student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Chinedu Chibuzor Christogonus.
The State Commander of Man O’ War Nigeria, Engr. Anthony I. Oji-Dike, made the position of the organisation known while reacting to reports that the student allegedly lost his life as a result of actions linked to executives of the institution’s Cadet Unit.
According to Oji-Dike, the Imo State Command strongly condemns any form of unlawful conduct carried out under the guise of discipline, stressing that the organisation maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against unauthorised physical drills, brutality, corporal punishment, and all forms of extrajudicial punishment.
He described the alleged actions of the FUTO Cadet Unit executives as a serious violation of the constitution of Man O’ War Nigeria, its operational guidelines, ethical standards, and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The commander acknowledged the swift intervention of the Imo State Police Command, which led to the arrest of the suspects and their transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Owerri, for further investigation.
He stated that the organisation fully supports the ongoing investigation and urged relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served without interference or preferential treatment.
Oji-Dike also welcomed the decision of the management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, to disband the campus cadet unit, noting that the action falls within the institution’s responsibility to maintain peace and safeguard the welfare of students.
He warned that any officer, warrant officer, or cadet member found engaging in unauthorised detention, torture, physical abuse, or other violations of human rights would face immediate disciplinary measures, including suspension, removal of rank, and prosecution through the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
The State Commander further explained that Man O’ War Nigeria’s programmes, including the Safe School Project and Grassroots Intelligence Networks, are designed to operate strictly within lawful, civil, and ethical frameworks aimed at promoting community safety and responsible citizenship.
He assured that the Imo State Command would continue to cooperate with university authorities and security agencies to ensure a transparent investigative process and that justice is achieved in honour of the deceased student.
