‎The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has praised residents across the South-East and other parts of Nigeria's former Eastern Region for their participation in Saturday's Biafra Remembrance Day observance.

‎The group described the widespread observance as a demonstration of collective remembrance for those who lost their lives during the Nigerian Civil War and related events that shaped the history of the region.

‎In a statement issued on Saturday, MASSOB leader, expressed gratitude to residents who observed the anniversary of the May 30, 1967 declaration of Biafra by the late.

‎According to Madu, the observance served as an opportunity for reflection on the experiences of those affected by the civil war and recognition of the sacrifices made during the conflict.

‎"We appreciate the people of Biafra for their commitment to preserving the memory of General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and observing the anniversary of the declaration of Biafra," he stated.

‎He noted that the level of participation recorded during the exercise highlighted the significance many residents attach to remembering the events and consequences of the civil war.

‎Madu reiterated MASSOB's commitment to pursuing its objectives through peaceful and non-violent advocacy, emphasizing that the organization would continue to promote its cause within the framework of self-determination activism.

‎"We commend the resilience and dedication of our people as we continue to advocate for our aspirations through peaceful and lawful means," he added.
‎The MASSOB leader also appealed to churches and faith-based organizations across the South-East to hold memorial services and special prayer sessions in honour of those who lost their lives during the civil war.

‎According to him, such programmes would provide an avenue for reflection, healing, and remembrance of the victims of the conflict and their families.
‎The annual May 30 observance is commemorated by pro-Biafra groups as a day dedicated to remembering those who died during the Nigerian Civil War, which lasted from 1967 to 1970 and remains a significant chapter in Nigeria's history.
