The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from lists of candidates currently circulating on social media purportedly for elections in Imo, Abia, Anambra, and other states, describing the documents as fake and unauthorised.
The party stated that it has formally submitted its authentic list of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) through the appropriate legal and procedural channels, but declined to disclose the names contained in the official submission.
In a statement issued on Friday, the National Secretary of the party, Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu, urged members of the public and party faithful across the affected states to disregard the circulating lists, stressing that they did not originate from the party’s national secretariat.
Enekweizu maintained that the documents being shared online are fraudulent and should not be regarded as the authentic nomination list of the party for the forthcoming elections.
He further alleged that the circulation of the lists was being driven by individuals seeking to cause confusion and internal disaffection within the party’s ranks, adding that such actions were not sanctioned by the leadership of the NDC.
According to him, the party has already commenced an internal investigation to trace the source of the alleged fake documents and any possible unauthorised leakage.
The statement reaffirmed that only candidates officially submitted to the electoral umpire should be recognised as valid representatives of the party in the upcoming polls.
The NDC also reassured its members of unity and focus, noting that it remains committed to strengthening its political structure and advancing its broader objectives.
It added that the party is determined to build a credible political platform capable of contributing meaningfully to national development and addressing Nigeria’s governance challenges.
